LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES The Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Monday, December 1, 1986 at 7:30 p.m. OF Members in attendance: Fred Ross - Chairman Ruth Tienor - Vice-Chairman Mary McAllister - Secretary Margaret Riley Earl Hartzog Tony Paulson Gene Weaver Connie Brison Ex-Officio - Gail Douglas, Librarian Adolph Aguilar, City Council Representative Visitors present: Mayor Earl Sawyer Members of the Schertz Humane Society The minutes of the November meeting were presented. Ruth moved to accept the minutes and Gene seconded. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Stats: Resident cards issued Non-resident cards User's Fees Reciprocal cards - 64 - 34 1 2 Copier Fees - $ 56.80 Fines, ETC. - $156.00 Circulation - 3061 Reported by Gail: The Collection stands at: Adult, 8842; Young Adult, 1321; and Juvenile, 3494. Money in the amount of $112.41 has been stolen from the library. A burglary report was filed with the police. A dead bolt lock has been placed on the back door. The other locks have been changed and the keys are now under tighter control. Also the money is now turned in every night to City Hall. Nearly al~ but 50 books have been accounted for since the inventory in Nov- ember. Bob Sheppard called and will send the other 2 section bookshelves. A decision has not been made in regards to the purchase of a computer. Gail will contipue to seek more information. l{r. Gilmore is reviewing a telephone contract. Gail and Margaret will attend a Texas Library Ass'n meeting in Boerne on . Dec ember 2. The Tri-County Consortium will meet here on Dec. 3rd, On December 6 at 2 there will be a library decorating party. Santa will be at the library on December 10 at 10 o'clock. .... . . FINANCE The Ewing Halsell Grant which was applied for in August has been denied. PUBLIC RELATIONS ...., :Ji Connie reported on information received concerning decals,. which might be used to indicate support of the library. A price of 85~ per decal with a minimum order of~250 or 50~ with a minimum order of 500 was received. The decal size would be approximately 3\i1ll x 5~". No action was taken.:; ',,~~,1 ,',:;;,~. The scrapbook has been updated. Many positive comments on the~scrapbook were received at a Bexar County Library Meeting at which Gail was a speaker. BUILDING An update of financial status is needed in order to persue the bricking project. The timer on sprinkler system is not cycling correctly. POLICY The censorship policy will be updated. NOMINATING,- COMMITTEE A proposed slate of officers for the year 1987 was presented. It read as follows: .~ Chairman - Fred Ross Vice-Chairman - Earl Hartzog Secretary - Connie Brison Treasurer - Julie Parr Mary moved to accept the slate presented and Ruth seconded. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Fred suggested that we persue the installment of an infra-red security system with the city. Margaret reported on the Literacy Council. Some monies have been received and most has been for salaries at this time. The next p~yfuent will be used for student materials. Also 20 volunteers will be trained as tutors. This training will take place the last of January. NEW & MISC. BUSINESS Discussion with the Schertz Humane Society members was held concerning the upcoming dance/auction. The date for the dance is February 14. The Humane Society ,,;ill get the items for the auction and conduct the auction that evening. The Library will be responsibYe for the dance and food items. The two groups will meet again to discuss further plans. Fred appointed Connie chairman of the Dance Committee. Fred will contact~a3 ba.nd. 9.' ~ The annual Book Sale has been scheduled for March 27-29. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD 'i Mayor Earl Sawyer urged that everyone vote on upcoming bond issue on January 10, 1 987. Tony moved for adjournment. Margaret seconded.
