LAB 02-04-1985 ., .~ LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES The Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Mormay, February 4, 1985 at 7:30 p.m. Members present: Tony Paulson - Chairman Ruth Tienor - Vice-Chairman Julie Parr - Treasurer Mary McAllister - Secretary Doris Courtney Margaret Riley Gene Weaver Ex-Officio ~ Gail Douglas, Librarian Adolph Aguilar, City Council Representative Visitors present: Earl Sawyer, Mayor of Schertz ~ Mr. Brannon, County Commissioner Margaret Riley moved that the minutes of the January 7th meeting be approved. Motion seconded and carried. TREASURER'S REPORT (see attached report) Gene Weaver moved the report be accepted. Doris Courtney seconded. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Stats: Resident cards issued - 63 Non-resident cards - 29 User's Fees d Copier Fees Fines, Etc. Circulation - $47.eO - $62.eO - 2eS7 Reported by Gail Douglas: The Collection stands at: Adult volumes - 7453; Young Adult - 1203; and Juvenile - 2760. The Annual Report will be completed March 1. Concern was expressed whether the library will meet the 1~ books per capita based on a December '~4 census of 11,400. Margaret Riley and Gail Douglas attended the District 10 Geographic Committee Meeting in Kerrville. Margaret and Gail will attend the Legislative Day in Austin on February 13th. Margaret, Lois, Donnette, and Gail will attend a workshop at the Regional Center. Topic will be "Rural Libraries". A Color Analysis Program will be held February 28. -- '" ;' Gail will check with the City Manager concerning an $84- bill for the outside light. Discu~sion that followed: Margaret requested cbpies of the Annual Report to the city be made available to board members. Mr. Aguilar advised G~l to contact the City Manager regarding ownership of the typewriter and the service agreement. . POLICY Margaret Riley distributed copies of the newly adopted Display and Exhibit Policy. Margaret and Gail asked for discussion concerning deposits for A-V equipment borrowed from the library. At a recent district meeting, it was discove~d that our library is the only library that charges a-deposit for the equipment. Other libraries require a driver's license number on the check-out sheet. After some discussion, Gene Weaver moved that we do aw~y with the deposits on A-V equipment and that in the future a driver's license number be included on the borrower's sheet. Ruth Tienor seconded. Motion carried. FRIENDS \ Tony Paulson announced that there will be a FOSL Meeting on February 7 at 7 p.m. DANCE Doris Courtney has obtained a keg of beer from the Bottle Shop. The soda will be purchased there. Doris will check with Jim Keith concerning a policeman for the dance. Liz Mueller and Margaret are still checking on an auctioneer. Tony announced that the Dance Committee will meet on Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.. The meeting will be held at 120 Edison Drive. Bring a paintbrush to this meeting. Another Dance Committe meeting will be held at the Community Center on Friday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. The response from the city's legal advisor was that the Library Board can not be held liable for actions of someone who has had only a few beers. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Ruth Tienor attended the City Council Meeting on January 8th and presented funds to the city as directed in the January meeting. NEW BUSINESS Annual Book Sale will be March 22-24. Discussion on charging by the inch or per book was held. Concensus was to charge by the inch. Paperbacks will be 2S~ per inch and Qardbacks will be S0~ per inch. Publicity will appear on the March City water pill. An outline oS the agenda of' the Library Advisory Board Meeting is to be posted at City Hall before each monthly meeting in accordance with the Open Meeting Law.
