AN ORDINANC
BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY ~ F SCHERTZ, TEXAS,
CALLING AN ELECTION TO BE HELI~ ON MAY 3, 2003 FOR
THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THREE (3 COUNCILMEMBERS
FOR SAID CITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ,
TEXAS:
I
THAT, an election be held in and throughout I he City of Schertz, Texas (the City),
for the purpose of electing three (3) Councilmember for Places 3, 4 and 5 respectively,
to serve for a term of two (2) years.
II
THAT, at said election the candidates receiv ~g the highest number of votes for
Places, 3, 4 and 5, respectively, be declared elect ed for a term of two years. Any
candidate desiring to have his or her name on the Off icial Ballot for said election shall, at
least forty-five (45) days prior to said election d; y, file with the City Secretary an
application in writing in the form prescribed by the Fexas Election Code requesting that
his or her name be placed on the Official Ballot and ]eclaring as a candidate for Place, 3,
4 or 5. That any person failing to file said written a }lication for candidacy by the time
aforesaid shall not be entitled to have his or her nam~ ~rinted on the Official Ballot. That
the name of all eligible candidates whose applicati( have been duly and timely filed
shall be placed on the ballot pursuant to a drawing as ~rovided by law.

THAT, all qualified voters of said City shall b, entitled to vote in said election.
IV
THAT, the ball~ts to be used in said election ;hall be prepared in conformity with
the Texas Election Code, as amended. That in h, ~lding and conducting said election,
voter forms, instructions and other materials requi :ed therefore, including the ballots,
shall be in both the English and Spanish language.

THAT, notice of said election shall be given n accordance with the provisions of
Title 1, Chapter 4, Texas Election Code.
THAT, the City Secretary is hereby authorize :1 and directed to post notice of said
election in both English and Spanish languages, on a public bulletin board at the
Municipal Complex of said City, at the polling plao,~ for the holding of the election, and
at one other public place within said City, all of w rich notices shall be posted at least
twenty (20) days prior to the date set for said electior

THAT, the City Secretary is further authori~ '.d and directed to cause notices of
said election to be published one time not more than wenty-five (25) or less than ten (10)
days prior to the date set for said election in a ~wspaper published and of general
circulation in the City.

THAT, this Ordinance shall take effect and , in full force immediately from and
after its passage on the date shown below.
