82-E-11 ELECTION RESULTS ":',' ORDINANCE NO. cg:; - E - / / AN ORDINANCE BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CITY OFFICER ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON THE 3RD DAY OF APRIL, 1982, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WHEREAS, there came on to be considered the returns of a City Council election duly and legally held in the City of Schertz, Texas, on April 3, 1982; and WHEREAS, this City Council has diligently inquired into the poll lists and official election returns which were duly and lawfully made to said City Council by the judge and clerks holding said election; and WHEREAS, from said returns, this City Council hereby finds that there were cast in said election by those voters who were resident qualified electors of the City the following votes: POSITION CANDIDATE VOTES Earl W. Sawyer 558 Write-ins 14 Leon "Dick" Chambless 204 Charles B. Sharpe.! 430 Write-ins 0 Mayor Councilmember Place 1 Councilmember Place 2 William G. Courtney 557 1 Write-ins and; WHEREAS, from the above tabulations and findings, this City Council further finds that there were cast in said election a total of 641 and that for Mayor EARL W. SAWYER received a plurality of votes cast; and in Place 1 CHARLES B. SHARPE received a plurality of votes cast; and in Place 2 WIll lAM G. COURTNEY NOW THEREFORE, received a plurality of votes cast; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS: I THAT EARL W. SAWYER is hereby duly elected Mayor; CHARIFS B. SHARPF is hereby duly elected Councilmember Place 1; and WILLIAM G.. COURTNEY is hereby duly elected Councilmember Place 2 on the City Council of the City of Schertz, Texas, pursuant to the election duly held within said City on April 3, 1982. II The public importance of this measure constitutes and creates an urgent necessity requiring that this ordinance be passed and take effect as an emergency measure, and shall take effect and be in force immediately upon and after its passage. The polls at the above designated polling place shall on said election day be open from 7:00 o'clock a.m. to 7: 00 o'clock p.m. The absentee voting for the above designated election shall be held at the City Secretarfs office, in said City, and said place of absentee voting shall remain open for at least 8 hours on each day of absentee voting which is not. a Saturday, Sunday, .or an official State holiday, beginning on the 20th day and continuing through the 4th day preceding the date of said election.
