The Schertz Animal Care Advisory Committee of the City of Schertz, Texas held a
regular meeting on December 6, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the Schertz Animal Shelter, 800
Community Circle, Schertz, Texas. The following were present:

Jim Lowery, Chief of Police, Chair
Allison Heyward, City Council Representative
Megan Lagunas, Shelter Manager
Dr. Brooke Knowlton, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

CALL TO ORDER AT: 6:02 pm by Chief Lowery

HEARING OF RESIDENTS: No residents present.
1. Minutes: Consideration and/action regarding the approval of the minutes of the
regular meeting of September 20, 2023.
A motion was made by Megan Lagunas to approve the minutes of
September 20, 2023. Dr. Knowlton seconded it. Motion passed. The vote was
unanimous.
2. Cibolo Small Animal Hospital: Surgeries at shelter -Shelter Manager Megan Languas
Megan let us know that the first surgery at the shelter was December 5, 2023. Fifteen
surgeries were done to include eyeball removal, spays/neuters, vaccines, and
microchips. All surgeries were successful. She let us know that all equipment had been
donated and Lt. LaCour stepped in and helped fix some legs on a table. Dr. Knowlton
stated that she is looking at every other week to do surgeries. Megan stated that doing
surgeries at the shelter will save time and money as they are no longer going back and
forth to the vet daily.
