10-31-1973 MINUTES FROM A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING
COMMISSION HELD ON OCTOBER 31, 1973 .
1. The Planning and Zoning Commission held a Special Meeting
on October 31, 1973 for the purpose of holding a public
hearing on changing certain street names in the City of
Schertz.
2. Members Present:
Johnnie Wise - Chairman
Dick Howe
Chuck Sharp
Don Seeba
Dick Chambless
Earl Sawyer - Secretary
3. The following concerned residents were in attendance:
Mrs. Chambless (Aviation Avenue)
Mr. Harris (Aviation Avenue)
Mr. Nordmeyer (Aviation Avenue)
4. Mrs. Chambless pointed out the many problems involved
in a street name change, such as Social Security, Drivers
Licenses, Personalized Checks, Credit Cards, Income Tax,
Newspapers, Mail, etc. She is vigorously opposed to
changing Aviation Avenues name. Mr. Harris also opposed,
Mr. Sawyer also a resident of Aviation Avenues. also apposed,
Mr. Nordmeyer also opposed.
5. The Commission chairman also asked how many people present
had seen the notice of this hearing in the Valley News.
No one present could recall seeing the notice in the past
three weeks.
Therefore the Commission recommends that another public
hearing be held at 7:30 on the 14th of November 1973, and
that all residents living on the affected streets be notified
by mail of this hearing.
6. The Commission would also like to point out to the City Council
that in Schertz the street is Aviation Avenue and in Universal
City it is Aviation Boulevard.
7. The Commission also notes that Universal City also has a Wright
and a Lindbergh as does Schertz.

8. Mr. Nordmeyer approached the commission on the matter of
the lots located on Aviation Avenue and the end of Lind-
Bergh Street. After much discussion, the commission took
the following action:
Mr. Sharp made a motion that the City reject Mr. Nordmeyers
bid (made to Urban Renewal Agency) and assume this land from
_ the Urban Renewal Agency and make a playground on this site.
(Mr. Nordmeyer would not object if the City took this action y
to reject his bid.) This was seconded by Mr. Howe, and all
commission members were in agreement.
9. If the City Council does not desire to assume this land, Mr.
Nordmeyer would like to make another proposal to the Council.
Therefore the Commission recommends that Mr. Nordmeyer be
advised of Council action on this motion by Mr. Sharp. Mr.
Nordmeyer address is Box 314, Schertz, Texas 78154.
10. Mr. Nordmeyer also voiced concern about high water in Cibolo
Creek recently, if the water ha.d been a few feet higher, the
water would have reached Lindbergh, he stated. He also thought
flood insurance should be made available to the residents of
Schertz. He also made several recommendation on the control
of the Cibolo Creek.
11. In view of the above, the Commission would like a professio-
nal report on what is being done about the flood situation on
the Cibolo Creek and what plans are being made to control it,
also what is being done to protect residents.
