05-21-1985 PLANNING AND ZONING MINUTES
The Schertz Planning and Zoning Commissior, and City Council conducted a
joint public hearing on Tuesday, May 21, 1985 in the Municipal Complex
Council Chambers, 1400 Live Oak Road. Planning and Zoning Commission
members present were as follows:

#1 CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Sawyer called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. and turned the
public hearing over to Chairman Yarling.
#2 PUBLIC HEARING: Zoning Change #70
To receive input from the public on a rezoning request for an eleven acre
tract of land from Single Family Dwelling District (Rl) to Neighborhood
Service (NS).
#3 GENERAL DISCUSSION
There was none.
#4 ADJOURNMENT OF PUBLIC HEARING
Chairman Yarling turned the meeting back over to Mayor Sawyer who adjourned
the public hearing at 7:27 P.M.
The Schertz Planning and Zoning Commission convened in a Special Session
in the Municipal Complex Conference Room.
#5 CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Yarling called the meeting to order at 7:35. P.M.
#6 CONSIDER AND MAKE RECOMMENDATION: Zoning Change #70
There was a brief discussion about the items mentioned in the public
hearing about fence and setback lines. There was also discussion about the
future extension of Green Valley Road.
James Harden made a motion to recommend approval, provided the require-
ments of the Zoning Ordinance are complied with (fence and building
setbacks) and that the proposed road is constructed as presented in the
master plan for this zoning request.
#7 CONSIDER AND MAKE RECOMMENDATION: Sign Ordinance
Merwin Willman handed out copies of the Sign Ordinance he had been
working on. He advised the Commission it was not completed and was open
for suggestions or necessary changes.
There was discussion about a new ordinance, and if the existing ordinance
is not being enforced, there is no need for a new ordinance. After a
lengthy discussion, it was agreed to put the Sign Ordinance on the next
agenda.
#8 GENERAL DISCUSSION
New lighted sign on FM 78 across from Texaco. Questionable temporary
development sign; appears to be too. close to FM 78.
Cibolo/Schertz Joint Meeting was May 20, 1985. Major item is Cibolo
master road plan which is to connect Main with FM 2252 at IH 35.
Status of Subdivision Ordinance was discussed - Staff delayed because of
existing work load.
The Commission was advised the next meeting would be held May 28, 1985.
There was some discussion about drainage and the problem at the frontage
of Deerhaven and Oak Forest.
