The LAB met on June 1, 2009 with the following members present:

1. - Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes of May
4, 2009
Mary McAllister moved to approve the minutes and Carol seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer?s Report
The May Bookstore sales were $606.11. Pattie Lovelady moved to accept the
report and Simone seconded. Motion carried.
Librarians? Report ?
3.Librarians will report on the following items:
May 2009 Library usage statistics
During May the library was closed for 6 days due to the swine flu and also
for Memorial Day
Circulation ? 16,396 Patrons ? 11,998 Computer use ? 1523
Phone calls ? 792 ILL loans ? 110 Volunteer hrs. ? 237.25
Restitution hrs. 27.5 Info/ref/comp questions -- 527

May 2009 Library programs and program statistics
Children?s story time ? 1,092 This is a large number for story time. There
have been several programs with large attendance numbers. Nicki Stohr,
children?s librarian, also presented at a local elementary school.
On-line sign-up for the Summer Reading Program has begun. Nicki will be
attending a city council meeting to talk about the program.
Melissa has been getting quotes for new library cards. She is considering
plastic cards with key tags.
Melissa will know next month if the library will receive a recycling bonus.
May 2009 Library fundraising statistics
Amount raised is $540,933.

Fundraising campaign report
A $5,000 grant has been received from Frost Bank.
A grant for water reclamation from LCRA has been received for $18,900.
The city must provide approximately $100,000 for the remainder of the
project. The grant must be forfeited if the city does not provide the funds.
Grants from Union Pacific will be researched.
Library Foundation report ? none
Report on new building progress
Building is basically finished. Electrical/mechanical walk-through has been
completed. Punch list is being worked on. Wall covering is up in the
program room. Some doors are being changed out. Shelving will be
delivered and assembled this week.
City will be doing the landscaping.
BookstoreCommittee Report
4. ? Committee will report on the following items:
Workshop for new volunteers
An orientation/luncheon will be scheduled in August for bookstore
volunteers.
Moving bookstore items to new location
Items in bookstore will need to be packed and then movers will move boxes
to new library.
A special book sale will be held in current book store. Customers will enter
through the side door facing Schertz Parkway. It will be held in August on
Monday-Friday from 1-3 pm. Most items will be considered as $3 per bag
merchandise with only a few items at regular price. It will be advertised as
?Feed Your Need to Read?. LAB members will staff the sale. Used book
donations will also be received during this time.
Jeri Chance submitted a report about selling on E-Bay and posting items on
Craig?s List. You must sign up for E-Bay and have a PayPal Account with
credit card or debit/credit card attached to bank account. E-Bay fees +
PayPal fees. On Craig?s List, anyone can sign up to sell books from the
book store or set up library as the seller. Arrangements could be made with
the buyer to pick-up item(s) at the library book store. Once listed the book
could not be sold in the book store until sold on-line or no longer listed.
Many complaints were listed concerning selling on the Amazon site.

DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION
Discussion on Sale of Library Items Not Used in New Library Building

Discussion on what will happen to unused library items after the move to the new
building, including the disposition of proceeds of any sale or auction, possible
dates, possible pre-sale dates, and need for volunteers.
City will conduct the sale of library items. The funds from this sale may be used
for the new library.

Discussion on Library Float
6.?Discussion on work day for July 4 float and
responsibilities on the day of the parade.
If it is possible to purchase, a blue pig piñata will be on the float. Several LAB

members and grandchildren will ride on the float. Work day will be June 25.
Discussion on Quotes and Pavers?
7.Discussion on the status of quotes submitted
by Board and Staff members and how quotes will be used in the new library
building
All LAB members should submit a quote.
Review of Board Policy on Memorials
8.?Discussion on verifying current
memorial policy of Library Board?need to review minutes of previous meetings.
LAB does not have a memorial policy.
