CALL TO ORDER: Ruth Tienor called the meeting to order.
HEARING OF RESIDENTS: Mr. Brockman asked if vending machines had been
ordered for the vending area. Melissa Uhlhorn said that the city purchasing department
would be ordering the machines.
REGULAR AGENDA
1. Council Appointments— Welcome of City Council's newest library board member
and alternate appointments.
Pattie Lovelady, Mary McAllister, Ruth Tienor, Margaret Riley and Laura Wilson
were appointed to the Library Advisory Board as members. Roger Sturdy and
Shonale Burke were appointed as alternate members. Shonale Burke was unable to
attend the LAB meeting.
2. Minutes - Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes of
December 7, 2009
Margaret Riley moved to accept the minutes as corrected. Pattie Lovelady
seconded. Motion passed.
3. Treasurer's Report – Consideration and/or action approving the October 5 &
November 7, 2009 Treasurer's Report
December book store sales were $1830.06. Mary McAllister moved to accept the
reports and Simone Bailey seconded. Motion passed.
4. Librarians' Report – Librarians will report on the following items:
• October & November 2009 Library usage statistics
No additions to the October stats that were reported last month.
November stats are as follows:
Circulation: 29,118 Patrons: 17,903 New Cards: 618 Renewals: 422
Computer usage: 3,437(included in circ.) Info questions: 896 ILLS: 111
Volunteer hrs: 411.75 Self check items: 10,547
December stats will probably be lower.
October & November 2009 Library programs and program statistics
Total November program attendance: 519
There will only be Saturday programs during January.
April Toman was introduced as the new Children's Librarian.
Darlene Price asked about highlighting the library in library publications.
Melissa Uhlhorn said the library might be considered for TMA and TLA
awards. Also the contractor has included the library in his company's
introduction CD to potential clients.
• November 2009 Library fundraising statistics
Gail Douglas reported that $12,000 was received in December from the
Dixie Starnes Wenger Foundation for children's computers. Also Mr.
White donated $100,000 to the Library Foundation for books and additional
computers.
• Fundraising campaign report
$1,672,182.20 has been raised in 1 '/z years. The goal is two million dollars
in 2 years.
"Ein Swine" was selected as the winner in the Name the Pig contest.
Margaret Riley submitted the name.
• Library Foundation report
$25,000 will be spent this spring for children's books with an additional
$25,000 in the fall.
Bookstore Committee Report — Committee will report on the following items:
• General operation of the bookstore during the month of November and
December
There is still a need for volunteers to work the bookstore.
New end of the sales day procedures will be implemented. Volunteers are
to exit through the front door of the bookstore and leave the key and money
at the circulation desk in the main library.
Date for next sidewalk sale
The sidewalk book sale will be scheduled for Saturday, February 20th and
February 27th will be the rain date. The sale will be from 10 to 4.
Repricing of bookstore gift items
Pattie Lovelady moved to change the price of the wooden pencil holder to
$5. Carol Cyr seconded. Motion passed.
DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION
6. Discussion on Resolutions 78 -R -1, 80 -R -11 and 09-R-59—Review of the newest
resolution that sets guidelines for the library advisory boards, as well as a review
of previous resolutions
The newest resolution adds 2 alternate members to the Advisory Board.
The Library Advisory Board By -Laws will need to be updated to reflect the new
resolution.
7. Election of Officers--discussion and action on
officers
The following were nominated and elected:
Laura Wilson, Treasurer
Sonia Samora, Secretary
Juan Thorn, Vice Chairman
Mary McAllister, Chairman

8. Revision of By-Laws—discussion and possible action on the revision of the
Library Board by -laws
Margaret Riley, Carol Cyr, Sonia Samora, and Bobbie Boyce volunteered to serve
on a By -Law Revision Committee.

9. Items by the Library Board Members –Briefing and discussion on the following
items:

• Announcements by Library Board Members
District 10's Spring AALS meeting will be held at the Schertz library on
March 12tH
• Call for items to be included on next agenda

Laura Wilson moved to adjourn and Carol Cyr seconded. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 1, 2010.
