The Schertz Board of Adjustment convened on April 26, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal Complex,
Council Chambers, 1400 Schertz Parkway Building #4, Schertz, Texas.

Mr. McQueen moved to approve the minutes for March 22, 2010. Mr. Slocum seconded the motion. Vote
was unanimous. Motion carried.
Mr. Slocum moved to approve the minutes for April 6, 2010. Mr. McElroy seconded the motion. Vote was
unanimous. Motion carried.

A. BOA 2010 - 004 Sedona Sign
Hold a public hearing, consider and act upon a variance to the Unified Development Code (UDC),
Article 11, Section 21.11.8 Development Signs relating to the maximum area, maximum height and
number of signs requested at 49.406+ acres of land specifically described as a portion of the Julian
Diaz Survey No. 66, Abstract No. 187, commonly know as 9417 E. FM 1518 N located in the Sedona
Subdivision.
1. Variance to the maximum area of a development sign.
2. Variance to the maximum height of a development sign.
3. Variance to the number of development signs.
Public hearing opened at 6:05 pm.
Ms. Sanchez gave a short presentation and provided staff comments on the variance request. She advised the
Board that the applicant is requesting a variance to the maximum height, maximum area and number of signs.
She commented that the UDC has a provision for the duration of time that a development sign can be located
on the lot. She stated that the public hearing notice was published in the Daily Commercial Recorder on
April 9, 20 I 0 and in the Herald on April 13, 20 I O. Twelve (12) notices were mailed to surrounding
property owners on April 13,20 I o. She offered staff recommendations.
Mr. Hartzog recognized the following to speak:
. Mr. Dahle, county resident, spoke against the request.
. Mr. Knotts spoke in favor of the request.
· Dr. Petrisky spoke against the request.
· Mr. Penshorn, county resident, spoke against the request.
· Steve Layton expressed concerns with the size of the sign.
. Edward Finley expressed concern with the sign and the impact it will have on the beauty of Schertz.
There being no one else to speak the Public hearing closed at 6:33 pm.
Discussion followed between the Board, staff and the applicant on the size of the sign, number of signs, sign
construction and the duration of the sign.
After a short discussion, Mr. Slocum moved to disapprove the request in its entirety. Motion failed due to lack
of a second.
Mr. McElroy moved to disapprove the request to the maximum height of a development sign. Mr. McQueen
seconded the motion. Vote unanimous. Motion carried.
Mr. McElroy moved to disapprove the request to the maximum area of a development sign. Mr. McQueen
seconded the motion. Vote unanimous. Motion carried.
Mr. McElroy moved to approve the request to the number of development signs. Mr. Montgomery seconded
the motion. Vote 4/1. Motion carried.
