REGULAR AGENDA 1. Minutes -Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes of November 1, 2010. Ruth Tienor moved to accept the minutes. Pattie Lovelady seconded. Motion passed. November 1, 2010 minutes approved. 2. Treasurer's Report -Consideration and/or action approving the September and ~ctoher, 2010 Treasurer's Report November bookstore sales were $1,53791 from the 1St through the 29th. Bobbie Boyce moved to accept the October 2010 treasurer's report, Juan Thorn seconded. Motion passed. October 2010 Treasurer's report was approved. 3. Librarians' Report -Librarians will report on the following items: • November 2010 Library usage statistics Circulatian:31,567 Patrons: 17,435 Computer usage: 4,766 1LLs: 146 11,096 Telephone 806 New Cards: 390 Renewals: 350 Volunteer hrs: 442 Self check items: • November 2010 Library programs and program statistics: There were 702 patrons that participated in the November programs. Thanksgiving week had the most participants. A program to download a-books was installed and available to library patrons. SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING December 6, 2010 • November 2010 Literary fundraising statistic: Capital One gave a $500 donation to sponsor a bench. Autumn Winds continues to donate. Gail Douglas read a Thank You note from General Stephen Lorenz regarding his retirement party. Gail and Melissa will woxk on the float. 4. Bookstore Committee Report -Committee wild report on the following items: • General operation of the bookstore during the month of November There are 27 volunteers. Vintage books are not yet listed in alphabetical order. Work in progress. Christmas sale began today. The bookmarks came in far the Christmas sale and rulers will also be sold for 25 cents each. Prices will be put on the items on the wall so patrons will know they are for sale. Requests have been made for pencils. A "change" list needs to be pasted for closers, as there has been occasion not to have enough change in the drawer the next day. • Report on possibility ofpurchasing uniform vest The type of vest we are looking for still had not been found. Were considering vests as a volunteer appreciation token. Possible consideration of a luncheon for the volunteers instead of a vest. Vests will be put on the January agenda for further discussion. • December closing dates The Library will be closed 12124 & 12125 and 12131 &111. Ruth Tienor made a motion to close the bookstore starting on December 24t~' and to re- open on December 3`d. Sonia Samora seconded. Motion carried. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION 5. Memoxial Donations -Discussion and possible action on memorial donations to Library Foundation for Mike Riley, Larry Brady and Edmund Kuempel. After a discussion regarding memorial donations, JuanThorn made a motion to donate $50 to the library an behalf of Mike Riley and Larry Brady, Ruth Tienor SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING December 6, 20I0 seconded. Motion carried. Afifty-dollar memorial donation will be made to the Library Foundation on behalf of Milce Riley and Larry Brady. There was a discussion on a memorial donation on behalf of Edmund Kuempel who was a big supporter and advocate on behalf of the library. Sandy Keiser made a motion to make a $1000.00 bookshelf donation in memory of Edmund Kuempel to the Capital Campaign, Pattie Lovelady seconded. Motion carried. 6. Discussion and passible action on purchasing crepe myrtles for library courtyard. No action necessary. Parks & Recreations said they would plant them. 7. Library Purchase -and possible action on purchasing solar fllm/screening for library windows on front of library. Gail Douglas made a presentation for solar screens for the front windows of the library, The estimate was $4500.00. City was working on a grant but it was going to be a while. The issue was tabled until January so that Gail could get samples of solar screen. 8. Library Purchase -Discussion and possible action an purchasing Christmas tree for library, Gail Douglas purchased a Christmas tree for the library in the amount of $248A0 Pattie Lovelady made a motion to reimburse Gail for the Christmas tree in the amount of $248.00, Sandy Keiser seconded. Motion carried. 9. Winter Reading Program -Discussion and possible action an library request for Winter Reading Club program supplies. Winter Reading Program starts in January with registration in December. Theme is "Walking in Winter Numberland". It focuses on math and science concepts. The goal is to sign up SO families. April Toman requested up to $600.40 for supplies, prizes and activities. Ruth Tienor made a motion to give up to $640.00 for the Winter Reading Club, Laura Wilson seconded. Motion carried. 10. Bookstore Purchase -Discussion and possible action on purchasing office supplies for the book store. Discussion had regarding purchasing office supplies for the bookstore such as card stock for business cards. Melissa Uhiharn will check on business card prices from Ciry's vendor. Matter is tabled until January meeting. ll , Election of 2011 Library Board Officers -Presentation of nominating committee's slate of officers with election to fallow.
