As we recently discussed, I am forwarding information to you concerning a
Selective Traffic Enforcement Program for the Independence Day and Labor Day
holidays.
The purpose of this project, popularly known as the S.T.E~P. program, is to
target speeding violations and seat belt violations. Officers assigned to these project
work spedfic zoned areas as agreed upon by The City of Schertz and the Texas
Department of Transportation. The Texas Department of Transportation will, in turn,
allocate funds to the city to pay for the participating officers' overtime costs.
The Independence Day Holiday S.T.E.P. schedule will be July 2nd through the 8th
between the hours of 0800 and 1900. The Labor Day Holiday S.T.E.P. will take place
September 3rd through the 9th, also 0800 through 1900 hours. The work zones that
have been designated for this program are as follows:

100 block to the 1300 block of FM 78
100 block to the 4500 block of Schertz Parkway

Ashley Oak and Ashley Park from FM 3009 to Schertz Parkway
The Texas Department of Transportation requires that each participating city
have their respective city council members adopt a resolution outlining the goals of the
program. It is my'recommendation that we prepare and present a resolution as soon
as poSSible to the City Council to expedite our receipt of the funding from the Texas
