1995R07- ATTAINMENT OF GOOD AIR QUALITY RESOLUTION NO. 9S-"(!- 7 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS, TO COMMIT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTINUED ATTAINMENT OF GOOD AIR QUALITY IN THE SAN ANTONIO METROPOLITAN AREA AND SURROUNDING REGION. WHEREAS, because the levels of pollution in the San Antonio Metropolitan Area and surrounding region have been increasing, the area's attainment status under the Federal Clean Air Act Amendment is in jeopardy; and, WHEREAS, should the San Antonio Metropolitan Area lose its attainment status and be designated a non-attainment area, both the region and the State could suffer severe economic sanctions; and, WHEREAS, it is imperative that the Metropolitan Area and surrounding region long-term comprehensive strategy for reducing air pollution; and, San Antonio develop a the level of WHEREAS, it is imperative that each public and private entity, including but not limited to counties, suburban cities, businesses, military installations, universities and school districts in the region should address this concern and make recommendations to their institution; and, WHEREAS, each measures to reduce including, but not and reformulated carpooling, and which contribute entity should consider a wide variety of the levels of air pollution in the area, limited to, the use of alternative fuels gasoline, the use and encouragement of rescheduling of air emissions activities to the formation of ozone. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City of Schertz commits to participating in the Ozone Action Day program through the Alamo Area Air Coalition and implementing a voluntary program to ensure that the San Antonio Metropolitan Area and surrounding region remains in attainment for good air quality. Drawer I 1400 Schertz Parkway schertz, TX 78154 Dear Mr. Baldwin: Although the San Antonio Metropolitan Area's air quality is considered good in comparison to other Texas cities, San Antonio is near nonattainment for ozone levels. Nonattainment is when ozone levels exceed federal health standards. San Antonio is the largest city in the united states that remains in attainment. Because of this, .there is a growing desire to monitor and control the amount of emissions being dispersed into the air. The Alamo Area Air Coalition is composed of business, government, and community leaders in the San Antonio - Bexar County regional area who are concerned with air quality. Enclosed please find information regarding the activities available in this region, as well as public education literature that explains the significance of good air quality. Also enclosed is a resolution for your city to commit and participate in the continued attainment of good air quality in the San Antonio region. As a member of the Alamo Area Air Coalition, you will be receiving faxes concerning Ozone Action Days and other information about air quality.
