The primary intent of this project is to identify and document potential hazards, risks,
vulnerabilities and projects that are suitable for future federal funding as it becomes
available. The projects will be focused on reducing the risk of loss of life, injury or
property damage due to natural hazards; generally referred to as hazard mitigation. This
process includes input from the local hazard mitigation team in the City of Schertz.
Each year, millions of federal hazard mitigation grants dollars are made available to
eligible applicants via programs such as the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)
and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program (PDM). With an approved hazard mitigation
plan, the County and the municipalities will be eligible for these competitive grant funds.
