JOB SUMMARY
This is a semi-skilled position involved in the maintenance and upkeep of the water distribution, water meters, meter boxes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following.

Upload and download hand-helds for meter reading. Read water meters monthly, recheck meter readings and reading errors upon water billing clerk’s request.
Repairs meter boxes, vaults, leaks, flow tests, and performs annual meter calibrations and replaces water meters as needed. Maintains meter supply room and post, in an orderly fashion.
Installs meters at new residential and commercial establishments, or upon a service tap completed by service crews. Establishes routing of meter locations.
Turn on new customers and turn off customers daily, and turn off customers for nonpayment, mails bills, as requested by the Water and Wastewater clerk.
Inventories water meters semi-annually and reports all meter replacements and charges.
Reports, fixes and replaces all meter problems such as leaks, broken lids, missing meter caps, etc. During meter reading routes.
Maintain vegetation around large meter boxes and vaults.
On occasion works with a crew in the installation and repairs of distribution mains and services.
Performs rough painting, carpentry, concrete work, and minor plumbing repairs.
Performs minor maintenance on vehicles, lawn mowers, pumps and small motors. Keeps tools organized and maintained for immediate operating conditions.
Records man-hour expenditures and materials on work orders.
Familiarization with the City of Schertz Code of Ordinance, subdivision codes, and water wastewater Department standards and specifications.
Assists other City Departments and Public Works Division as required.
Assumes the duties of the Clerk/Dispatcher or billing clerk in their absence.
Good Housekeeping and Organization of tools, vehicles and equipment.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES (SKA'S) The requirements listed below are representative of the skills, knowledge and abilities required.
Requires basic knowledge of reading, writing, ground maintenance equipment, height construction equipment and powered/non-powered hand tools.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
EDUCATION:
Must have high school diploma or GED. Must be computer literate
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS
Pick-up truck, utility carts, lawn tractors, lawn mowers, ground maintenance equipment, shop support equipment, and other related power tools.

Hazards exist which could result in lost time or accidents; exposed to all weather conditions, works a 40-hour week, performs stand-by and weekend duties as required. Schedule stand-by
for turn-on/turn-off for non-payment.
