AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A POLICE RESERVE FORCE Ah~ ADOPTING THE
PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 998a, VERNON'S ANNOTATED TEXAS STATUTES, AND
SETTING FORTH THE CONDITIONS CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHING OF SUCH
POLICE RESERVE FORCE AND ITS ACTIVITIES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS:
1.
The Chief of Police of the City of Schertz, Texas, is here-
by empowered to establish a police reserve force, not to exceed
25 in number.
II.
The Chief of Police shall insure that all members of the po-
lice reserve force shall be trained in law enforcement fundamentals
in accordance with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and
Education for Reserve Forces.
Members of the police reserve force shall serve without compen-
sation unless specifically authorized by the City Council.
III.
No person appointed by the Chief of Police as part of the po-
lice reserve may carry a weapon or otherwise act as a police officer
until he has been approved by the City Council. After approval, he
may carry a weapon only when authorized by the Chief of Police, and
only when discharging Official duties as a duly constituted peace
officer.
IV.
Members of the police reserve force are to serve at the discre-
tion of the Chief of Police and may be called into service at any
time the Chief of Police, or in his absence the Assistant Chief of .
Police considers it necessary to have additional officers to preserve
the peace and enforce the law.

Reserve police officers shall act only in a supplementary capa-
city to the regular police force and shall, in no case, assume the
full time duties of regular police officers without first complying
with all requirements for such regular police officers and only then
upon the express approval of the City Council of the City of Schertz,
Texas.

V1.
Nothing herein contained shall limit the powers of the
Mayor given him by State Law, if any, to summon into service a
special police force under the general statutes of the State of
Texas.
