Vls-tors; Brian James, April Tomen and Llzzi Blase CALL TO ORDER; Sonia Samora called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m... RI=GUL~-R AGENDA: 1. Minutes - Carrslderafion and/or actiarr regarding the approve! of the minutes of November 5, 2012. Corrections were proposed to the minutes. Margaret Riley moved to accept the November minutes as corrected. Sandy Wilson seconded. November 5, 2012 minutes approved. 2. Treasurer's Report -Consideration and/or action regarding the approve[ of the October 2872 Treasurer's Report Cash account ending balance October 31, 2012 was $2G,449.22. Investment account ending balance October 31, 2012 was $30,766.70. In Laura's absence, Mary McAllister told the board the November book store receipts were $1,466.14 which is down slightly. Mary McAllister moved to accept the Treasurer's Report. Sandy Keiser seconded. October 2012 Treasurer's Report was approved. 3. Librarian's Report -Librarians will report ors the following items: • November 2012 -Library Usage Statistics: Overall circulation: 29,301 Patrons:17,305 New Cards: 301 Renewals: 425 ~ Self-Check Usage: 11,412 # People attending Programs: 1,148 Volunteer Hours: 358 Computer usage: 3,161 • The Librar~r will be closed December 24'" and 25'" for Christmas, and December 315' and January 1S for New Years. * Seventy-four applicants applied and the list has been narrowed to sixteen which was referred to Human Resources. • Library Pundraisfng: 150 holiday wreathlsprays and centerpieces were sold and (here are 12 left if anyone Is interested. $7,500 was received on pledge for children's room and also a $15,000 donation far books. 4. Bookstore Committee Report: Committee will report on the following items: The book store will be closed December 2~'" through January 1~ and re-open on January 2°d • Thanks to Sonia for decorating the Windows and to Bobbie for the stocking stuffier wall. Christmas titles are out. • Consignment book sale cheek received. • Calendars have been ordered as form of recognition and appreciation far volunteers. DISC SSiON & POSSIBLE ACTION; 6. Summer Reading Club -April and Lizzl explained planned to use the Co[faboratfve Summer Library Fragram (CSLP} because the prior program used is no longer available. CSLF offers consistent programs across the U.S. and this year's themes will be "Ground Breaking Reads" for adult program and "Dig Into Reading" for the children's program. One major change this year is that incentives such as bookmarks, treasure boxes and other items speciftc to theme have to be ordered prior to December 30. Using last year's participation numbers as a starting point (9500 children and 200 adults), they estimate the expense to be $826. Mary McAllister moved that we expend $825 for summer reading club incentives. Neota Frady seconded the motion. The $825 expenditure was approved. 6. Landscaping -Guadalupe Master Gardeners don't do landscape maintenance. A request was sent to Native Plant Society for assistance. City crew will take the responsibility. Two additional trees will be planted in the payscape area prior to year-end. The pnyscape ribbon-cu#ing ceremony is scheduled for January 2013. 7. Library Board Applications and Appointments -City Council is revamping the process for appointment to boards. They have sent letter to all board members to solicit continued interest and ask what the i~oard member t~rings to the board. 8. Library Board Officer Nominations - lVp new officer appointments wil[ be made while the City COUnCiI i5 working through the process. We Wiil extend the Current officers in their pD5ltiQnS Until further notice from the Council. Board by-laws will also be amended to coincide with the new Council process when it's fnallzed. ANNOUNCEMENTS; • Correspondence received -none. + Announcements by Library Board members ~ none were reported.
