Assistant Fire Chief Advertisement - Jan 20 - Mar 11, 2015 City of Schertz Assistant Fire Chief Exempt Full Time Open January 20, 2015 thru March 11, 2015 The City of Schertz is accepting applications for the position of ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF to fill an immediate vacancy at that position. The Schertz Fire Rescue Department employs 32 uniformed positions in two fire stations in this dynamic community. Serving a population of 38,000 along the San Antonio-Austin Corridor, Schertz is a rapidly growing city with projections for the population to double within ten years. The department is expected to grow along with the community creating an exciting opportunity in this progressive department. Schertz Fire Rescue is equipped with top of the line equipment and protective clothing. The Department is a learning organization that is proud of its training and professional development. Requirements: Requires Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Structural Fire Fighter-Master and Department of State Health Services (DSHS) EMT-B or higher certification at time of application; ten years continuous prior employment in a career paid fire department, with no less than five years supervisory and administrative experience. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major coursework in fire science, fire administration, public administration, or training, and human development is required. Successful completion of the National Fire Administration’s Executive Fire Officer Program may be considered as equivalent to a Master Firefighter certification and Degree requirement when accompanied with Advanced Firefighter Certification from TCFP. Preferred Experience in fire department administration, budget preparation, fire risk planning, organizational strategic planning preferred. Certification as Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer IV, Fire Investigator, NIMS ICS400 and Master’s Degree is desired. City of Schertz Assistant Fire Chief Exempt (page 2) Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation and subsequent medical exam and pre-employment drug screening. Pay and Benefits: Salary range is $73,300-$80,929 annually (depending upon qualifications); an excellent benefits package which includes 100% employee Health, Dental, and Vision, paid vacation, sick, holidays, Workers’ Compensation, EAP, and tuition reimbursement. TMRS retirement included at a 7%, 2:1 match, with 457 deferred compensation plans available. The City of Schertz pays longevity pay, adjusted annually.
