JOB SUMMARY:
This is specific office work for the Municipal Court. Employee is responsible for the
preparation and filing of numerous legal documents and correspondences, preparation and maintenance of the trial calendars, preparation of court dockets, fine collection and the preparation
of the daily bank deposits for monies collected by the municipal court. Daily public contact requiring tact and diplomacy is an essential attribute of this position. The ability to
multi-task in the performance of one’s duties in a fast-paced environment is also essential in this position. State law provides that the court clerk shall keep the minutes of court
proceedings, issue all processes, and generally perform all duties for the municipal court that a county clerk performs for the county court. This position requires limited decision
making authority on nonjudicial matters; however, all decisions must be made based upon the knowledge of court procedures and state laws, policies set by the municipal judge and laws
governing access to public information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals

Prepare trial calendar and control sequence of trial calendar
Summon jurors
Issue subpoenas
Prepare monthly state reports
Explain
court procedures to defendants
Prepare appeals from convictions in municipal court
Accept complaints for filing in the municipal court
Prepare complaints
Administer oath to affiants
for sworn complaints and affidavits
Maintain court docket
Collect fines and court costs from defendants
Deposit on a daily basis monies collected by the Court
Prepare summons and arrest
warrants for the judge’s signature
Maintain accurate records of all court proceedings manually and
through an automated case management computer program

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES (SKA'S) The requirements listed below are representative of the skills, knowledge

Ability to read, write, comprehend and enunciate clearly the English language
Ability to read, write and comprehend and clearly enunciate the Spanish language
is desirable
Knowledge and skills in the usage of Microsoft Office
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy with the public
Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
Ability
to utilize a cash register
Comprehension of the importance of record maintenance
Ability to use phone etiquette
Ability to keep information confidential

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Cash collection experience is desirable
Experience in the usage of a typewriter, computer with
Windows operating system, calculator, adding machine, telephone, fax machine, copier, telephone and postage machine and other general office equipment
Experience in case management computer
software is desirable
Experience in customer service
Experience in filing and record keeping
Two years experience as a clerk desirable
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma
32-hour new
court clerks training seminar from the TMCEC preferred
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Court Clerk certification is desirable
Certified court intrepretor for the Spanish language is desirable
Texas Driver’s Class C Driver’s License

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential functions of this job.
Work is generally conducted in a well-lighted, air-conditioned office with little hazards. Employee is expected to work a 5-day, 40
hour work week but is required to attend court after normal working hours and may be required to work overtime when workload demands. Occasionally employee is expected to leave the
office to verify vehicle registrations and inspection stickers in the city parking lot.
