Board Members present: Johnie McDow, Chairman, Mark Davis, Eric Haugen, Harriet Higgs,
Sally Macias, Jeff Sanna and Fae Simmons
Staff present: Jim Fowler, Councilman, Brian James, Executive Director Development Services,
Chuck Van Zandt, Parks Manager, and Sandy Bryant, Sr. Administrative Assistant.
Call to order. Meeting was called to order by Johnie McDow, Chairman at 5:30 p.m.
Hearing of residents:
There were no residents to be heard.
Regular Agenda:
Agenda Item No. 1. Minutes. Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes
from the May 18, 2015 regular meeting.
Motion was made to approve the minutes from the May 18, 2015 Schertz Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board regular meeting.

Ayes: Fae Simmons, Sally Macias, Johnie McDow, Chairman, Mark Davis, Eric Haugen,
Harriet Higgs and Jeff Sanna.
Nays: None
Abstains: None
Approved: 7 -0
Agenda Item No. 2. Update on Status of New Parks. Mr. Brian James briefed the Board on the
following status of New Parks:
Cypress Point Park - they are trying to install water fountains once the weather cooperates. It will
be a native type park with no restrooms.
Rhine Valley Park — probably will be completed in six month to a year. It will be part Home
Owners Association (HOA) and part City of Schertz Park
Nortex Park — they have submitted the plat for a spine road and will be doing the Park in phases.
This Park will have a trail connection with the Fairhaven Park.
Crossvine Park — they are still waiting for the removal of the house on the property.
No action was taken on this item.
Agenda Item No. 3. Update on Natatorium. The Construction Manager at risk came to an impasse
with the first firm and they have moved on to the second choice. No action was taken on this item.
Agenda Item No. 4. Discussion on a bridge from the Civic Center Ball Fields to Clemens High
School. Mr. James briefed the Board that engineering is reviewing the initial design of a flat car
bridge. Final design should be ready within a month. No action was taken on this item.
Agenda Item No. 5. Parks and Facility Maintenance Update. Mr. Van Zandt updated the Board
that the Dog Park ribbon cutting is once again being rescheduled but that people and dogs are
already using the Park. The Parks Department is busy getting ready for the 4th of July Jubilee at
Pickrell Park. No action was taken on this item.
Requests and Announcements:
Agenda Item No. 6. Request by Advisory Board Chairman and Board members for items to be
placed on a future Board agenda. The Board requested the following items be placed on future
agendas:
• Doggie Park.
• Participation in the El Camino Trail 300 year anniversary celebration.
• Practice fields and open spaces.
• Tree trimming at Pickrell Park, Thulemeyer Park and Schertz Parkway.
• Mosquito spraying in Schertz.
Agenda Item No. 8. Announcements by Advisory Board Chairman and members Mr. Mark Davis
mentioned the 102 Aero ladies restroom has a leak. Chairman McDow noted that BVYA would be
meeting with Mr. James and Mr. VanZandt to discuss the pool and fence at Pickrell Park. Ms. Fae
Simmons gave a short update on the progress of the Bond Committee. The next Parks Board
meeting will be July 27, 2015.
