JOB SUMMARY:
The Web Developer designs, edits, and develops graphics, mockups, wireframes, user interface (UI)
design, and architecture of websites for the City of Schertz.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Designs, edits, and develops graphics, mockups, wireframes, user interface (UI) design, and
architecture of websites.
• Provides ongoing technical support for web application projects throughout their life cycles.
• Researches and factfinding efforts needed to develop, modify, or update basic to high complexity
information systems.
• Manages time and workload to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
• Develops and updates technical documentation.
• Works with management team to set and implement goals for City's web presence.
• Works with GIS team in order to develop geoenabled websites, tools, applications, and interactive
maps based on current and anticipated needs (near future responsibility).
• Collaborates with Public Affairs to support their management of social media and web content.
• Communicates development status, issues, and concerns to management with mitigation
recommendations.
• Installs PC's and related hardware; investigates hardware problems and performing minor system
hardware and communication connection repairs; performs basic diagnostic testing.
• Designs graphics to enhance the look of the web sites; responsible for making improvements or
enhancements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires High School Diploma or GED, and three (3) years of web page design experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of departmental practices and systems
• Knowledge of Wordpress, Dreamweaver, HTML, JAVA, Flash, Jquery, Illustrator, and Photoshop
• Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multiline telephone systems
• Skilled in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes
• Skilled in using computers for data entry
• Skilled in using highly technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service
• Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively
• Ability to perform basic diagnostic testing of computer and system hardware
• Ability to create plans for and guide implementation of new technology systems
• Ability to work with various departments at all levels
• Ability to repair, develop, or install complex software or management information systems
• Ability to be a selfstarter and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
• Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a valid driver’s license (or obtain within six months of hire), and Microsoft A+ certification.*
