HEARING OF RESIDENTS: April Toman
CALL TO ORDER: Patti Dilworth called the meeting to order at 6:29 p.m.
REGULAR AGENDA:
1. Minutes: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes
of the November 7, 2016 meeting.
Ruth Tienor moved to accept the November minutes after correction. Laura Wilson
seconded the motion. Motion carried. The November 7, 2016 minutes were
approved after corrected.
2. Treasurer's Reports: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of
March 2016 Treasurer's Report.
*The October Treasurer's Report: Bookstore sales were 1,423.23, Interest earned
.58 Library Consignments were 41.23, Misc. 1.31, total is 1,466.35.
The Cash Account has 14,377.96 and the Investment Account has 45,204.92 in the
accounts.
*The November Treasurer's Report: Bookstore sales were 1,469.43, Interest earned
.89 Library Consignments were 66.91, Bag Sale earned 855.75, total is 2,392.98.
The Cash Account has 13,474.08 and the Investment Account has 45,173.97 in the
accounts.
Sandy Keiser moved to accept both the October and November 2016 Treasurer's
Report as presented. Joanne Ward seconded the motion. The motion carried. Both
of the October and November 2016 Treasurer's report was approved.
3. Librarian's Report: Librarian will report on the following items:
General Operation: - The Library changed its hours on Saturday to open at 10:00 am,
instead of 12:00 pm. They had a soft opening on January 7, 2017. All went well.
There were a few little hiccups, but all should be corrected for the next Saturday.
- Staffing changes- it took 6 weeks, but all is back in order and all positions are filled.
- Budget retreat is coming up.
- Discussed the Annual Customer Survey that was online. 106 patrons responded to
the survey. Top 3 areas of concerned were: customer service, Noise, and the
collection. Melissa Uhlhorn addressed these areas in the upcoming Schertz Tales.
-Staff Evaluations are going to begin shortly.
-Texas Library Association is in San Antonio the second week in April. All board
members were invited to attend; Patti Paulson expressed interest in attending.
April and a New Braunfels Librarian will be doing a presentation during the
conference.

4. Bookstore Report: Committee reported on the following items:
General Operation:
-Ann Vick a long time volunteer passed away. The Bookstore will be closed Friday,
January 13, 2017 to allow all the volunteers to attend the rosary and funeral at Good
Shepherd Church. Patti Dilworth will send a card to the family.
- Things are running smooth.
-Need volunteers, but it is working out. Currently all positions are covered. Melissa
Uhlhorn suggested putting a sign in the bookstore window. Katrina Garza is the
new Volunteer Coordinator for the City.
- Donations are coming in.
-Book sale is scheduled for March 31St- April 1St with setup on the 30th at 5:30. The
setup time will be later, because the room is occupied until then.
5. CCAB (Committee of Committees Advisory Board) Update: Shonale
Burk /Brian James
No report was given.
DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION:
6. Children's Author Visit- Discussion and possible action on funding joint
program with SCUCISD elementary schools.
April Toman lead the discussion on bringing an author to the Library and the
SCUCISD elementary schools. The author chosen was Chris Burton, author of
Whoosh and John Roy Lynch. The board listened to a pod cast and April read a
variety of quotes from other authors and librarians as to the benefit of having an
author visit.
Three options: Option 1: 2 days with visits to 3 schools and the library - 3,000 +
travel
Option 2: 4 days with visits to all 8 elementary schools - 6,000 + travel.
Option 3: 3 days with visits to all 8 elementary schools and the library -4,500
travel
Discussion was to cover part of the fees and the SCUCISD will cover part of the cost
as well. Currently 3 libraries have expressed interest, in the having an author come
to talk to the schools, they are going to approach the other 5 elementary schools to
see if they would be interested as well.
Ruth Tienor moved to give no more than 3000.00 towards the Chris Burton visit.
Patti Paulson seconded the motion. The motion carried. The LAB will donate no
more than $3000.00 towards the Chris Burton visit.

7. Items by the Library Board Members: Briefing and discussion on the
following items:
- Correspondence received by the Secretary: None received
-Other announcements by Library Board Members: None given
-Call for items to be included on the next agenda: SWAT and final discussions on
Mary's Signpost.

The motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:41 p.m. The next meeting is
