12-07-15SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING December 7, 2015 Members Present: Ruth Tienor, Laura Wilson, Melissa Uhlhorn, Sandy Keiser, Carol Cyr, Howson Lau, Bobbie Boyce, Margaret Riley, Neota Brady, Patti Paulson, Joanne Ward, Shonale Burke, Becky Scheffler Visitors: None HEARING OF RESIDENTS: None CALL TO ORDER: Bobbie Boyce called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. REGULAR AGENDA: 1. Minutes: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the November 2, 2015 meeting. Ruth Tienor moved to accept the November 2015 minutes as presented. Joanne Ward seconded the motion. Motion carried. 2. Treasurer's Reports: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the October and November 2015 Treasurer's Reports. The October 2015 Treasurer's Report: Bookstore sales were 1,742.39, Interest earned 1.14, Library Consignments were 147.38, Bag Sale $686.50 total is 2,577.41. The November 2015 Treasurer's Report: Bookstore sales were 1,481.45, Interest earned 1.08, Library Consignments were 67.95, total is 1,550.48. Margaret Riley moved to accept the October and November 2015 Treasurer's Report as presented. Sandy Keiser seconded the motion. The motion carried. The October and November 2015 Treasurer's reports were approved. 3. Librarian's Report: Librarian will report on the following items; Melissa Uhlhorn passed out a copy of the Firearms Policy that pertains to volunteers and employees of the library. Melissa discussed the new Brainfuse program and its usage. It seems to be off to a good start. The Gutierrez family met with her about donating the memorial money to the Library. A suitable memorial project will be funded from the donated funds. Bookstore Report: Committee reported on the following Items: General Operation: Book sales are still doing well even though the book store was not open for business as many days as normal due to the holiday break. There was a discussion about increasing the cost of a bag for March's bag sale. It was decided to leave the cost unchanged this sale (March) but to increase the cost of a bag to $4.00 at the next bag sale and to communicate to customers the future price increase during the March sale. A sign -up sheet for the bag sale will be passed around next (February) Board meeting. Joanne also discussed the need for a "refresher" for our volunteers regarding correct procedures in the book store. She is going to rework a list of procedures and will bring to the next meeting for approval. 5. Update on Mayor's Committee: Howson Lau No meeting- Nothing to report. DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION 6. Library Food & Drink Policy Melissa provided a copy of the proposed Food and Drink Policy. There was discussion about the pros and cons. The Board requested a survey of library patrons to get their opinions. The vote was tabled until after we received more feedback and clarification. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 8.
