REGULAR MEETING
May 15, 2013
A Regular Meeting was held by the Schertz Animal Advisory Committee of the City of Schertz,
Texas, on May 15, 2013 at 12:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Schertz Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center,
1730 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas.
Committee Members Present: George Logan, Parks, Recreation & Community Services Director,
Dr. Brooke Knowlton, DVM, Val Wilenchik, Councilmember David Scagliola, Chairman Shanna
Roman, Animal Services Manager.
Staff Present: Animal Services Tech Janet Tumlinson and Administrative Asst. Sandy Bryant.
Others Present: Mr. Robert Brockman.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Sharma Roman at 12:49 p.m.
Hearing of Residents: There were no residents to be heard.
Regular Agenda:
Discussion and possible action:
Agenda Item No. 1. Minutes — Discussion and/or approval of the November 20, 2012
and December 19, 2012 regular meeting minutes.
Motion was made to approve the minutes from the November 20, 2012 and the December
19, 2012 regular meeting minutes.
Motion: Councilmember Scagliola
Second: Dr. Knowlton
Vote was unanimous. Motion passed.
2. Agenda Item No. 2. Animal Services Adoption Facility Update- Discussion and
possible action on the design, and construction of the new Animal Adoption Facility.
Chairman Shannon Roman provided an update regarding the adoption facility.
Chairperson Roman noted they had changed the design from two entrances to one. The
staff is meeting weekly for project updates. Committee ask if there are new staff being
added as part of the project and Chairperson Roman stated not at this time. No action
was taken on this item.

3. Agenda Item No. 3. Animal Services Update — Discussion and action on changing the
Vision State Mission Statement, and Goals and Objectives for Animal Services
Department. Chairperson Roman briefed the Committee on new Vision and Mission
Statements and Goals and Objectives for the Animal Services Department that she would
like to have approved by the Committee.
Motion was made to approve the minutes new Vision and Mission Statements and the
Goals and Objectives for the Animal Services Department as presented.
Motion: Val Wilenchik
Second: Councilmember Scagliola
Vote was unanimous. Motion passed
4. Animal Services Policy and Procedure — Discussion and action on Policy and
Procedure changes for Animal Services Department. Chairperson Roman briefed the
Committee that she is working on a policy and procedure for feral cats. No action was
taken on this item.
5. Announcements by Advisory Committee Chairman and Members — Chairperson
Roman thanked Dr. Knowlton for all of her assistance to the Animal Services
Department. Chairperson Roman introduced Animal Control Officer Tumlinson and
stated that she would be bringing different officers to the Committee meetings so they
can meet the Committee members. Ms. Wilenchik reminded everyone that the Doggie
Dash is scheduled for May 25, 2014 at Pickrell Park.
6. Announcements by City Staff — The date for the next meeting has not been determined at
this time but the Committee will be notified as soon as the date is set.
