Winter Edition
2011
Congratulations to Steele High School on bringing a state football championship to the
Cibolo community. It's a great way to begin the new year and a historic accomplishment
for relatively new school. Did you know that the Schertz - Cibolo High School Girls
Basketball Team won a state championship in 1953? Picture of that team are on display
p Y
at the Seniors Center.
New Senior's Center Arrives
The old Schertz Library is now the new senior's center. It is providing great space for
seniors (50 and older) to gather for entertainment, food (lunches), education, health fairs
and companionship. Many more activities will be available at the Center as time goes by.
The Schertz Historical Preservation Committee (the Committee) is supplying much of the
wall decor for the Center that would have otherwise been placed in a historical museum
had one been created. Stop by the Center and enjoy the people and the historical artifacts.
Bond Issue For Fine Arts and Historical Museum Disapproved
Voters rejected the idea of creating a combined fine arts and historical museum during
the November elections by a vote of 145 for and 209 against... Thus, the idea of creating
a historical museum in Schertz is no longer viable. The Committee is beginning to place
displays at the Kramer House (Schertz Visitor's Center), the Schertz Senior Citizen's
Center, (old library building) and the History and Genealogy Room of the new library..

Sister Historical Society (Riedisheim, France) Honors Schertz with Publicity
The Riedisheim Historical Society has published its annual Bulletin and devoted five
pages and two articles about Schertz. Three copies of the Bulletin were sent to the
Committee with a letter updating us on the events occurring in Riedisheim.
Unfortunately, the articles are in French and a translator is needed to interpret.
