Board Members present: Johnie McDow, Chairman, John Sullivan, Vice - Chairman, Reginna Agee,
William Bosch, Phillip Rowland, Robert Sheridan, Floy Simmons and Ronald Washington.
Staff present: Brian James, Executive Director Development Services, Lauren Shrum, Assistant
Director Parks, Recreation and Community Services and Sandy Bryant, Sr. Administrative Assistant.
Others present: Ms. Joyce Briscoe, Ms. Judy Tanner and Mr. Joel Tanner
Call to order. Meeting was called to order by Mr. Johnie McDow, Chairman at 5:32 p.m.
Hearing of residents:
There were no residents to be heard.
Regular Agenda:
Agenda Item No. 1. Minutes. Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes from
the October 23, 2017 regular meeting.
Motion was made to approve the minutes from the October 23, 2017 minutes Schertz Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board regular meeting as amended.

Agenda Item No. 2. No -Name Park. The Advisory Board reviewed the survey results and recommended
five names that met the Boards criteria for naming of parks and received the most votes from the survey.
Motion was made for submission of Ashwood Park, Fawn Cove Park, Freedom Park, Friendship Park
and No -Name Park to City Council for the final approval.

Agenda Item No. 3. Update on November 18, 2017 Parks Tour. Advisory Board members William
Bosch, Sally Macias and Vice - Chairman John Sullivan, Councilman David Scagliola, staff members
Executive Director Brian James, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Lauren Shrum and Admin.
Assistant Sandy Bryant, the photographer and videographer from Public Affairs attended the tour. Mr.
Bosch commented on the large area City Parks cover. Vice - Chairman noted the need for money to
maintain and update all of the parks. The Board also discussed the possibility of touring other cities
neighborhood parks to see what they are doing at their parks. Discussion only no action was taken on
this item.
Agenda Item No. 4. Committee of Committees Advisory Board (CCAB )Update The CCAB noted the
1518 TXDOT design stage for the first half of the project is in progress. They are currently looking at
doing all of the project at once in 2021 and are asking for an additional five million dollars for the five
miles from FM 78 to I -10. There will be a briefing on capital improvement projects to City Council
tomorrow night, Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 and an input meeting on the FM 1518 project at the Civic
Center on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017.
Requests and Announcements:
Agenda Item No. 5. Request by Advisory Board Chairman and Board members for items to be 1p aced
on a future Board agenda. The Advisory Board requested the following items be included on future
agendas:
Goal statement for visiting with or holding an annual meeting with other city parks
departments.
Agenda Item No. 6. Announcements by Advisory Board Chairman and members Chairman Johnie
McDow briefed the Board he had attended the TRAPS Central Region Workshop & Rodeo and found it
very interesting. Vice Chairman John Sullivan briefed the Advisory Board on his attendance at a land
conservation meeting with the Hill Country Alliance and San Marcos River trail around the City using
easements.
Ms. Shrum updated the Advisory Board on the following events:
• October 28, 2017, 5 -9pm Movie in the Park and Trunk or Treat in Pickrell Park.
• November 1 -2, 2017 TRAPS Central Region Workshop & Rodeo in Schertz.
• November 9, 2017 Star party at Crescent Bend Nature Park.
• November 11, 2017 Nature Discovery Series: What's Flying at Crescent Bend Nature
Park.
• November 16, 2017 Birding Walk at Crescent Bend Nature Park.
• November 18, 2017 Parks Tour starting at City Hall Complex.
Ms. Shrum updated the Advisory Board on New Department initiatives:
• Christmas Tree Lighting November 28, 2017 at City Hall.
• Festival of Angels December 1, 2017 at City Hall.
• Movie in the Park December 9, 2017 at Pickrell Park.
• Star Party on December 9, 2017 at Crescent Bend Nature Park
• Birding Walk on December 10, 2017 at Crescent Bend Nature Park.
The next Advisory Board meeting will be January 22, 2018.
