01-18 LAB Minutes;XI&ERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD January • r r • Members resent: Ruth Tienor, Laura Wilson, Patti Dilworth, Margaret Riley, Patti Paulson, Joanne Ward, Brian James, Carol Cyr, Neota Brady, Dawn Figueras, Shonale Burke Visitors: Lizzi Bertoia and April Toman HEARING OF RESIDENTS: None CALL TO ORDER: Patti Dilworth called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. - 1. Minutes: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the November 6, 2017 meeting. Patti Paulson moved to accept the November minutes as presented. Margaret Riley seconded the motion. Motion carried. The November 6, 2017 minutes were accepted as presented. . Treasurer's Reports: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of October and November 2017 Treasurer's Report *The October 2017 Treasurer's Report: Bookstore sales were $1,413.46, Interest earned for October $17.43, Misc. funds .51, Library Consignments were $129.87 the total is $1,561.27. Distribution $195.34. The Cash Account has $21,913.24 and the Investment Account has $45,659.83 in the accounts. *The November 2017 Treasurer's Report: Bookstore sales were $1,261.33, Interest earned for November $18.39, Misc. funds $1.19, Library Consignments were 58.88 the total is $1,339.79. Distribution $175.34. The Cash Account has 23,279.17 and the Investment Account has 45,659.83 in the accounts. Ruth Tienor moved to accept both the October 2017 and November 2017 Treasurer's Report as presented. Joanne Ward seconded the motion. The motion carried. The October 2017 and November 2017 Treasurer's report was accepted as presented. 3. Librarian's Report: Librarian will report on the following items: General Operation: - Melissa Uhlhorn was unable to attend the meeting. Lizzi Bertoia presented the Librarian's Report in her absence. -One of the clerks resigned, an ad was placed for the position. The interviews for the position will begin next week. Bookstore Report: Committee reported on the following items: General Operation: -Three new volunteers are trained and ready for subbing in when needed. - Income for the store was down in December. The store was closed for two weeks during the holidays. -All Christmas books were displayed during the holidays - Vintage Book sales are going very well. - Overall everything is going well. S. Reading Clubs- Discussion and possible action on funding for winter, summer and Year Round reading clubs April Toman and Lizzi Bertoia requested that the full 10,000 budgeted for the Library, to be used for the different reading programs throughout the year. Broken down below: $1600.00 Summer Intern $5500.00 Both summer and current winter programs $2900.00 New Program - Year long reading challenge New Programs: Reading Road Map- 4 books /4 stamps from the designated locations around Schertz. The people that complete the task will be entered into a 100.00 gift card for a drawing. Mark Cuban will donate $2,500.00 for the libraries that entered a challenge to read 1000 books. Read 25 books in a year. There are specific types of books that will need to be read to complete the challenge. Registration begins in January with the challenge beginning in February. The ones that complete reading all 25 books will get a hoodie with the 25 types of books on the back with library logo on front. Ruth Tienor made the motion to give the library the $10,000.00 to fund the year round reading programs. Neota Brady seconded the motion. The motion carried. The library will receive $10,000.00 to fund the year round reading programs. 7. Credit Card Machine- Discussion and possible action on installing a credit card machine in the bookstore. . It will cost $390.00 to set up the credit card machine. The minimal amount able to be charged is $5.00. Joanne Ward will poll the volunteers to see if they are willing to use the credit card machine in the bookstore. After discussion, the topic was tabled until the next meeting. Ruth Tienor moved to adjourn the meeting. Patti Paulson seconded the motion. The motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m. The next meeting is February 5, 2010.
