Welcome aboard to our newest Committee member, Letticia Sever.
Letticia’s arrival rounds out our committee’s fourteen-member roster. Letticia is
a long-time volunteer with the Schertz, Cibolo, Universal City Independent
School District and with the Boy Scouts of America.
The Committee sponsored a City historic field trip/tour on May 12th for
members of the Samuel Clemens High School History Club. The tour included
stops at historic old town (north and south), the Jacob Seiler family gravesite,
and historic landmarks surrounding the Comal Settlement/North Schertz (now
Schertz Extra Territorial Jurisdiction) area. The History Club included the
Committee Chairman as its guest on a field trip to the San Antonio Holocaust
Museum. We thank Mark Anthony Thornton, Clemens High School History Club
Sponsor, for arranging these outreach opportunities.

Dean Weirtz represented the Committee at a San Antonio Conservation Society
meeting held on June 2nd, 2018 for more than 50 area-wide historical
2
organizations. The meeting enabled attendees to educate everyone as to these
groups’ activities and programs.
Remembrances Special Edition Article 2018-3 was published this quarter
(see attached).
An historic Fiesta poster exhibit was on display at the Schertz Senior Center
throughout the ten-day Fiesta celebration period. The Senior Center audience
expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to view the colorful and artistic
Fiesta historic posters. A special appearance by Schertz artist Cecelia Paz Mujica-
Denham discussing her two winning Fiesta posters was a highlight of the exhibit
presentation event.

The Committee’s Schertz Citizens Legacy Video Interview Project has
completed eight video interviews, which will be posted to the Biblioboard
platform for all interested parties to view. This project has been a collaboration
with students at Samuel Clemens High School Audio Visual Department.
Planning has begun for the Committee’s participation in the upcoming festivities
surrounding the celebration of the City’s 60th Birthday celebration set for
September 15, 2018.
A small selection of Schertz historic photos have been returned to the
Schertz Senior Center for display after the completion of the Center’s
restoration project in late August 2017.
An inventory of Committee resources (photos/artifacts/furniture, etc.) was
conducted in June by Chairman Weirtz and Committee member David Lynch and
the results reported to the Committee.
The Schertz photo history book remains on sale at the Schertz Visitors
Center, the Schertz Public Library and at City Hall (Water Dept.).
