06-18 LAB MinutesSCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING June 4, 2018 Members Present: Patti Dilworth, Laura Wilson, Carol Cyr, Patti Paulson, Margaret Riley, Sandy Keiser, Dawn Figueras, Juan Thorn. Melissa Uhlhorn, Library Director. HEARING OF RESIDENTS: None CALL TO ORDER: Patti Dilworth called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. REGULAR AGENDA: 1. Minutes: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the May 7, 2018 meeting. Sandy Keiser moved to accept the May 2018 Minutes with 1 minor correction. Patti Paulson seconded the motion. Motion carried. The May 7, 2018 Minutes were approved with 1 minor correction. 2. Treasurer's Reports: Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the April 2018 Treasurer's Reports. The April 2018 Treasurer's Report reflected income of $1,246.37 and expenses of $659.96 leaving a balance of $23,793.50 in the cash account. Margaret Riley moved to accept the April 2018 Treasurer's Reports as presented. Sandy Keiser seconded the motion. The motion carried. The April 2018 Treasurer's Reports were approved. 3. Librarian Report: Melissa Uhlhorn reported on the following items. Summer Reading Program has had more than 200 registered participants so far and more are anticipated. - Scholastic Book Fair is this week. - New procedural changes in the Polaris circulation system include automatic renewals and extended DVD (not brand -new titles) borrowing period. - Staffing: 1 experienced temporary summer clerk started today,1 experienced part -time clerk has been hired and 1 staff member is due to start maternity leave soon. - A Summer Reading Program has been started at the local Senior Center. - Expanded Programs Request has been submitted to Schertz to include noise reduction panels, increase in materials budget and hiring 1 staff member. - Marion's public library future is in question. continued: - The Technology Impact Survey is complete and will be discussed in an upcoming Schertz magazine. 100% positive customer service was reported. - New Board member will be voted on by Schertz City Council tomorrow. - Library Advisory Board officers will be discussed at the upcoming August 6th meeting. 4. Bookstore Report: Committee reported on the following Items; General Operations: - Tentative Bookstore Sale date is set for October 26 -27, 2018. Bookstore gift certificates continue to be considered by bookstore staff. An embosser will possibly be purchased to help eliminate fraudulent copying of certificates. - Alternative consignment options continue to be considered by bookstore. - Dawn Figueras will potentially take over the duties (vintage books) of Bobbie Boyce (resigned). - Melissa Uhlhorn will inquire about advertisement for the bookstore within the Schertz magazine. 5. Committees of Committees Advisory Board(CCAB) Update - No updates available. DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION: 6. Library Foundation Mini Golf Event: - The Schertz Library Advisory Board will sponsor one hole for $2S0 for the June 23, 2018 Library Foundation Mini Golf fundraising event. Patti Paulson made a motion to approve sponsorship. Juan Thorn seconded. Volunteers for the event are needed and welcomed. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 7. Items by the Library Board Members: Briefing on the following items: - Correspondence received: None received. - Sandy Keiser has resigned from her position on the Schertz Library Advisory Board effective immediately. She will continue to volunteer in the bookstore. Margaret Riley moved to adjourn the meeting. Laura Wilson seconded the motion. The motion carried.
