- Bookstore sale is advertised in Schertz Magazine as a spotlight.
- Dot sale continues; paperback 10 cents and hardback 25 cents.
- Gift certificates available for the holidays. Will be featured in future Schertz
Magazine.
5. Committees of Committees Advisory Board (CCAB) Update
- Shonale Burke stated the Police Department provided an update on the new
organizational structure and ongoing operations in the Schertz Animal Adoption
Center during the September 29, 2018 meeting. The update was followed by a visit
to the Center and a question and answer session.
DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION:
6. Bookstore Merchandise:
- Melissa had contacted Texas Book Consignment as a source to sell used books. The
company representative explained they didn't want to do business with us because
we're further away from their office than they want to travel for pick -up. She then
talked to Thrift Books and they want 15 -20 boxes on a pallet before they're
interested. Next she talked to Better World Books who have a resale avenue for
newer and vintage books. She's waiting for a call back from this company. Finally,
she researched Sell Back your Books.com which has a scanner and they tell you
immediately how much they'll pay for a book. Once we agree to sell, they send the
postage and pay us the agreed amount (they then sell the book at whatever they
deem appropriate).
- The board discussed the different options. Melissa unpacked the last book we had
packed for Library Consignment to provide a visual example. She showed which
books they'd buy and the price, those they were interested in that we could sell, and
the vintage books they don't have an avenue for.
- It was agreed that we should use 2 sources for consignment. Better Book World for
vintage, assuming they get back to us. And Sell Back Your Books.com for books that
we're offered more than 50 cents. If less than 50 cents, we can sell by the inch in the
store. Better Book World and www.Sellbackyourbooks.com both have a Web site
and scanner but www.sellbackyourbooks.com requires an ISBN.
