The Committee’s Annual Report to City Council was delivered on February 5th. All 2018 goals were successfully met except one, which remains pending City Council Main Street Committee action. The Committee goals for 2019 are outlined in the report. Interested parties can request a copy of the Annual Report by replying to this email communication. Remembrances Special Edition Articles 2019-2 was published and is attached to the newsletter. The video project undertaken by the consultant/marketing firm of LOOKTHINKMAKE and titled “Schertz Now and Then” was the featured presentation at the March 6, 2019 Schertz Heritage/History Open House held at the Schertz Library. The video records the historical development of the City of Schertz from its early beginnings until present. The video project was sponsored by Crossvine Development Corp. which has its residential development project south of the City along Hwy 1518. The Committee exhibited historic photos of early Schertz and participated in a panel discussion following the video presentation. We enrolled more than a dozen new subscribers to our newsletter and special edition articles. The Committee has submitted its nomination for Heritage Neighborhood status for the former community of Comal Settlement, now a part of North Schertz. The area is one of the earliest settlements occupied by original immigrants accompanying the “Nobleman’s Society for the Protection of Germans in Texas” (aka “Mainzer Adelsverein”) of the New Braunfels area in the mid-19th century. 2 Two Real Estate Offices (Simmons Realty & Cook Realty) have introduced historic Schertz photo displays within the interiors of their respective facilities. The photo displays were furnished by the Cibolo Valley Community Museum Association. Soon the newly constructed Staybridge Hotel along Schertz Parkway will add Schertz historic photos to its décor. The Committee participated in the Schertz Volunteer Fair on April 11, 2019. There were numerous early Schertz historic photographs on display as well as a Fiesta poster display. The Schertz history books (narrative and photo book) remain on sale at the Schertz Visitors Center, the Schertz Public Library, and at City Hall (Water Dept.).
