Memo Resolution Parks and Recreation donation from BVYAAgenda No. 3 CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM/RESOLUTION City Council Meeting: February 5, 2008 Department: Subject: BACKGROUND: Parks and Recreation Donation from BVYA (Buffalo Valley Youth Association) The Buffalo Valley Youth Association (BVYA) is in receipt of a $35,000 donation for the development of three additional playing fields at the Schertz Ballpark Complex. This donation will include an additional amount of $15,000 from the BVYA Capital Improvement Fundraising Campaign. This additional funding will bring the BVYA donation to $50,000. These three additional fields will provide necessary expansion of the BVYA to meet the growing amount of youth participation that BVYA is experiencing due to overall city wide and local area growth. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviewed and approved this donation on January 28, 2008 and passed a motion to take this donation to City Council. The Parks and Recreation Department is currently working with McCreary and Associates Engineers and Ford Engineering firms to provide surveying, staking, grading and providing site work at the complex behind City Hall in an effort to complete the development of the access roads and parking lots that are in the FY 2007 -2008 Parks and Recreation Department budget. FISCAL IMPACT: $50,000 For the development of three additional fields. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends accepting the donation. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ: That the above stated staff recommendation is hereby approved and authorized, and the City Manager is authorized and directed to accept the donation from BVYA for the future development of the fields at the Schertz Ballpark Complex. PASSED AND APPROVED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Schertz, Texas this 5th day of February, 2008, at which meeting a quorum was present, held in accordance with the provisions of the Texas Government Code, §551.001 et seq., as amended.
