The Schertz Animal Care Advisory Committee of the City of Schertz, Texas held a
regular meeting on November 9, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Schertz Animal Shelter, 800
Community Circle, Schertz, Texas. The following were present:

1. Minutes: Consideration and/action regarding the approval of the minutes of the
regular meeting of July 13, 2022.
A motion was made by Megan Lagunas to approve the minutes of
July 13, 2022. Lisa Connolly seconded it. Motion passed. The vote was
unanimous.
2. General Shelter Update: Shelter Manager Lagunas
a. Intake trend FY 20/21: The shelter took in 1070 animals.
FY 2021/2022: The shelter took in 1125 animals.
1) Call for service trend: FY 20/21: The shelter took 2029 CFS.
FY 21/22: The shelter took 2206 CFS.
2) EOY Euthanasia trend FY 20/21: The shelter euthanized 93 animals, with a
91 % live release.
FY 21/22: The shelter euthanized 79 animals, with a 93% live release.

3) Shelter will start capturing and presenting data differently, to differentiate
euthanasia between wildlife and domestic animals.

h. Customer Interactions
• DSHS Annual Inspection -November 3, 2022, the DSHS performed annual
inspection. Zero recommendations and zero write ups. We passed with a
perfect score.
• Community concerns, Wildlife in yard, deer stuck in fences, animal
welfare, stray cats, dog bites, dogs at large, barking dogs, puppies, and
kittens.
i. Rescue Partners
• The shelter continues to use rescue partners such as non-profit rescue
groups and local pet stores, to help find replacements for animals. ARF-
Texas, Homes for Pets and Perfect Treasures, are some of the biggest
rescue partners. San Antonio Humane Society blocks off four spots every
two week and takes heartworm positive animal as well.
j. Media
• The shelter continues to utilize social media and the shelter website to
advertise animals new to the shelter.

• We continue to utilize social media to advertise our community adoption
events and search for animal fosters.
• The shelter continues to utilize the "Pet Finder" for all adoptable animals
at the shelter.
