Review of Financial Statement • Accept the financial reports for May 2024, June 2024, July 2024, August 2024 and September 2024. • Chris Hormel motioned and Angie Fain seconded to approve the financial reports. Motion passed unanimously. 4 Consideration of an Application for a Landmark Property – Schertz-Cibolo Cemetery – 93 Bubbling Springs Road • Maggie asked if everyone had reviewed the backup materials or had questions. Dr. Miguel Vazquez made a short presentation on the cemetery and mentioned the upcoming event on November 2. Some discussion occurred about the difference between Landmark Properties and Heritage Neighborhoods. Discussion occurred as to the different forms of Landmark Property markers that have been used in the past – some with descriptions and some without. It was noted that developing an appropriate format for those markers/plaques might be a good discussion in the future. • Angie Fain motioned and Becki Babcock seconded a motion to recommend the Schertz-Cibolo Cemetery as a Landmark Property. 5 2025 Project Identification • Maggie noted ideas Roz had submitted – historic street signs for the three historic neighborhoods – Downtown* (*note that Downtown is not a historic neighborhood, rather the Old Schafer Family Neighborhood south of FM 78 and First Street is), Aviation Heights Comal Settlement. Some discussion occurred on this project with Brian James saying it was really just a cost item that the board could pay for, but it wouldn’t involve much work for SHPC. • Another item was a photo contest where the photos could be displayed or used as a calendar. Also mentioned were the trivia night and scavenger hunt. • Maggie talked about each item needing a Champion and Assistant. • Agreed Scavenger Hunt was worthy of doing again as was the trivia night. • Chris Hormel mentioned needing to finish drafting the policies, as these were taken out of the bylaws. • Discussion occurred on a City entry sign on IH-35. Brian James mentioned the column signage and the Schertz Parkway name. Maggie mentioned the New Braunfels one was $500,000. • Chris noted that if the SHPC did a calendar should free as the goal is not to make money for the City. Also they needed to be done by July. It was noted that the money would go to the SHPC to fund their activities, but it was noted the SHPC had funds available to do this. • Another item mentioned was going through the items in the storage facility/digital files. It was noted that we could maybe ask the Clemens History Club to help. • Maggie noted she would send a summary out before November. • Chris Hormel mentioned supporting the City in their events. • A mobile museum was mentioned. Page 3 of 3 6 Updates • Scavenger Hunt- the SHPC recognized the winners before the meeting. 52 maps went out and 16 came back in. Maggie did the winner drawing video. • Storage Move Maggie did a lot of organization. • Inventory of SHPC items on display at the Kramer House • Platter from Schertz Mercantile • Board Book from the original Schertz Water Board • Memorial sign in book for the Borgfeld family • Photo of Gerlich Mercantile Store in color • Hanging 1934 calendars • Photos- RAFB - overhead view, photo of W. Randolph, Black and White front view of Taj with planes, explanation plaque about William Randolph, Lt Randolph's squadron in India, Retirement photo of Maj Gen Lahm and other officers • Schertz-Cibolo Cemetery Open House – Saturday, November 2, 2024 9:30 AM to Noon. Chris, Roz and Sophie would attend and Angie would try to go out after coaching. Requests and Announcements • Noted Requests can be set to Maggie and she can send it to Brian and Zinnia.
