DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION ITEMS
1. Minutes – Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the
regular meeting of October 23, 2024.
• Chris Hormel motioned and Kathleen Samsey seconded to approve the
minutes. Motion passed 6-0.
2. Review of Financial Statement
• Accept the financial report for October 2024.
• Roz Wise motioned and Kathleen Samsey seconded to accept with the condition
to remove the car show. Motion passed 6-0.
3. Continuation of 2025 Project Identification
• Maggie noted the recap she sent since the last meeting and asked for feedback.
She did not that there needed to be a champion for any ideas that the Committee
carries forward to this coming years.
• Chris Hormel will take lead on finishing policies and procedures. Key to this effort
is for folks to read the drafts prior to the meetings.
• Trivia and Scavenger Hunt – idea was to do trivia at Pickrell Park to get a better
turnout. Brian James agreed to reach out to the Parks Department to find out
Page 2 of 3
about locations. For the scavenger hunt 52 maps were given out and 16 were
returned. It was agreed to do Trivia but no final decision was made on the
Scavenger Hunt.
• Organize the files/photos the SHPC has. The idea is to assign this to the Clemens
History Club. Maggie is trying to sort through them to eliminate personal photos.
• Choosing City events to support was another idea thrown out at the last meeting.
Maggie cautioned not to be too ambitious but selectively focus on the ones that
enhance the SHPC’s mission.
• Roz brought up the calendar and provided an example of what it might look like.
She talked about hiring a photographer or having a contest for photos. Chris
Hormel suggested not selling them, but giving them away. There was discussion
about the challenges in using photos of people’s homes without their permission
and also making sure we have authorization from the photographer. It was
discussed that Roz would take the lead if they agreed to do this project.
• It was discussed that all projects selected would be discussed monthly at the
meeting – a status report with a timeline of actions.
• Roz brought up the idea of historic street signs for the three historic
neighborhoods – Downtown* (*note that Downtown is not a historic
neighborhood, rather the Old Schafer Family Neighborhood south of FM 78 and
First Street is), Aviation Heights Comal Settlement. Rox mentioned it could be
spread out over a few years. Maggie asked about what we wanted to get out of
this – Roz indicated it was to make folks aware of the historic neighborhoods.
Some discussion occurred on this project with Brian James saying it was really
just a cost item that the board could pay for, but it wouldn’t involve much work
for SHPC. Brian agreed to come back with a cost estimate at the next meeting.
• Maggie noted 7 projects:
• Finalizing the Policies and procedures (Chris champion) will have a draft
timeline in January,
• Trivia (Sophie champion – support Angie, Mark, Lauren), based on
location/for turnout
• Scavenger Hunt (not decided)
• Calendar (Roz Champion with support from Angie), will provide timeline
• City Events to Support (Kathleen champion),
• Street Signs (on hold) Brian to get cost estimate
• Sorting Personal Photos from Photo Library (Maggie is champion)
• These will be discussed in January to finalize project list. Maggie will send a
synopsis before the next meeting.
Requests and Announcements
• Roz mentioned she is looking for information on Sears catalogue homes if anyone has
anything. She is also working with Library folks on an article on how the Library in Schertz
came about.
• Kathleen brought up wanting to discuss a standard template for Landmark Homes signs.
Maybe discuss in February.

• It was agreed to not meet in December due to the conflict between the regular meeting
date and Christmas, so the next meeting would be January.
• Chris asked about reaching out to neighboring historic associations to coordinate a bit
more.
Meeting adjourned at 7:01 PM after a motion by Roz Wise and seconded by Sophie Rodriguez.
