SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAJ:I) MINUTES
The LAB met on October 2, 2006 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the September meeting were presented. Margaret moved to acce!>t the minutes and Carl
seconded. Motion carned.
Treasurer's Report: September Treasurer's report was presented. Barbara reported that September bookstore
sales were $660.54. Sales for January through September were $5,126.88. Patti moved to accept report and Laura
seconded. Motion carried.
Citizen Comments: None
Librarians' Report:
· The stats for September were as follows: 24,264 checkouts; 14,801 people came in; 212 new cards were
issued in September, computer usage 2,299.
· Nicki reported story time has reswned. She has gone to two workshops and did a seminar on-line.
· There was a wedding at the gazebo on Friday, September 29, 2006.
Melissa will attend Trunk Or Treat.
There are plans in Seguin for a new library.
Melissa, Margaret and Laura attended the AALS Fall Membership Meeting on September 22, 2006 at the
San Antonio Public Library.
February is Love Your Library month.
Hermann Sons are working on a Bowl-A-Thon. A can was put in ~.Iibrary for donations for the month of
September. This is a Youth Group Project and the library willlJ6t.~fthe m'>Dey that was collected.
Discussed who could leave cans for collections. Final decision wiD be up to Ml,lissa and Gail.

Old Business:
Contract has been drawn up for land for new library. Waiting for answer on pri,;e. Bonds were sold in
August. Lots of people are asking when the new hbrary building construction will begin. When they ask,
tell them to call Mike Carpenter. Members are advised to go to the Council Me':ting in two weeks and ask
when building construction will begin.
Carl said Jefferson United Church would take old mobile phones to use for part!.. Carl will take to church
if we receive any.
New Business:
Discussed float for December Festival of Angels night parade. Bring ideas for float to November meeting.
· Melissa needs ideas for software or suggestions for anything new. She would like to know what programs
are used in other parts of the country. Suggestions: author visits, evening with lID author.
Nicki needs $600 to do winter reading club. She wants to do Fear Factor. Pizza place will donate to the
club. $400 will go for books and $75 for storyteller. Nicki wants to work with ,:)lder kids and have them
leam to use the library. Carl made motion to give Nicki $600 and Ruth seconded. Motion carried.
Ruth and Margaret put up new shelves in bookstore. Cost was $34.64. Carl made motion to reimburse
Ruth.

Ruth brought up the 50-year celebration for the City of Schertz in 2008. We need to start collecting old
things for it. Ruth and Margaret (with help of others) will try to get started on it. Tony Vandmmm will
help make copies of old pictures, etc. V/VI oe-r\~c.t:L.r-
Melissa showed a video on free on-line tutoring services. It showed how to aCC:e5S the program at the
library and gave a website to acccss it at home. Melissa will take this info to tile schools.
