SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on March 5, 2007 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the February meeting were presented. Carl moved to approve and
Margaret seconded. Motion passed.
Treasurer's Report: Laura presented the January report. She also reported that Bookstore
sales were $731.56 for February. Mary moved to approve and Patti seconded. Motion passed.
Citizen Comments: none
Librarians' Reports:
· The stats were as follows:
circulation - 21,376 patrons - 13,642 computer usage - 1,996 cards issued -- 190
story time - 411 information questions -756
· Applications for the shelving clerk position (20 hr. week) have been received.
· AALS Spring meeting will be in Bandera on March 23. Evan Smith, editor of Texas
Monthly, will be the speaker.
· Comments on the Winter Reading Club have been positive. An I Pod Shuffle was a prize
given away.
· Tweens and Teens program will be re-evaluated as attendance has been low.
· Teen Tech week is March 4-10. A play list (favorite books, music, movies) will be
compiled.
· A teen volunteer program is being developed.
· Nicki and Melissa will be attending TLA meeting in San Antonio in April.
Community Services Director's Report: none
Council Liaison's Report: During the council liaison's report, the LAB discussed possible
library locations and concerns therein.
Committee Reports: none
Old Business:
· New library building project -
~ A community forum will be held at 6 pm, March 21 in Council Chambers. Input
for design of building will be received.
New Business:
· Summer Reading Club Budget -
~ Nicki spoke of plans and requested money for the Summer Reading Club. Ages
for the club will be 0 to 16. Programs will include Deal or No Deal, Solar Ovens
from pizza boxes, and Stir and Mix with the readers making smoothies and
Q 101.9 explaining how to legally download music. Simone made a motion to
approve money up to but not to exceed $1500 for the Summer Reading Club.
Carl seconded. Motion passed.
Margaret made the motion to adjourn. Laura seconded. Motion carried.
The next LAB meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
