SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on October 2, 2007 with the following members present:

Guest: Bob Brockman
Minutes: Margaret moved to accept the minutes as corrected, and Laura seconded. Motion
carried.
Treasurer's Report: Mary moved to approve the report, and Patti seconded. Motion carried.
Margaret moved to transfer $10,000 from cash account to investment account. Mary seconded.
Motion carried.
Citizen Comments: none
Librarians' Reports:
· Stats were as follows:
circulation - 24,914 patrons - 14,963 computer usage - 2,341 info questions - 718
story time - 535 cards - 316 (new) 387 (renewal)
Circulation for the fiscal year was 292,909. This is a 5.79% increase over the previous
year.
· Jeri Chance has been hired for a part-time position. Lisa has moved to a full-time
position. Sara has resigned. One part-time position and one full-time position are open.
· The Rosetta Stone link and the Booknews (info about books) link are on the library web
page. Soon the link for Newsbank (Texas newspapers) will be added.
· The city budget has been passed. Melissa will begin looking at RFID project
management systems.
· The children's quilt was on display at the Quilt Show. However, it did not place.
· Upcoming children's programs include bookmark contest, play list on-line, and Lego
Quick Build.
· CSI Revisited is the theme for the Winter Reading Club.
· Family Story Time will begin in January for 6 weeks. It will be held on Saturdays. IE
students will facilitate. -
· Nicki has been invited to sit on a New Ideas Panel at TLA. This will be at Dallas in
April. She will speak about successful programs such as Monopoly Tournament and
Lego Contest.
Community Services Director's Report:
· City has purchased acreage adjacent to the library.
· Fund raising has been discussed with KellMunoz.
Council Liaison's Report: none
Committee Reports:
· Fund raising committee will meet in October.
Update on new library building project:
· Colors and furniture will be discussed at the next meeting with the architects.
Discussion of Library fund-raising projects:
· Committee will report next month.
Discussion on Festival of Angels float ideas:
· The pirate ship from the 4th of July float can be made into a sleigh. Character for the
float will be the Grinch.
Items by Library Board members
· Nicki requested funding for the Winter Reading Club. Mary moved that we fund up to
but no more than $600 for this. Pattie seconded. Motion carried.
Margaret made the motion to adjourn. Laura seconded. Motion carried.
The next LAB meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m.
