RESOLUTION NO. OO-~-/~
A RESOLUTION
IN SUPPORT OF AND URGING THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS TO APPROVE A 20-MPH SCHOOL
ZONE AT THE INTERSECTION OF ASHLEY OAK DRIVE,
NORTH ON SCHERTZ PARKWAY, TO 300 FEET NORTH OF
SAVANNAH DRIVE.
WHEREAS, parents of children who attend Wilder Elementary on
Savannah Drive have expressed concern about the possible risk of their children
being struck by a vehicle in this area; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department and the Police Department
concur there is a possible risk in the area for children to be struck by a vehicle
due to the volume of traffic and the speed at this location; and
WHEREAS, the City of Schertz already has in place Ordinance No. 98-D-5
which makes it unlawful for any person to drive or operate any motor vehicle in
excess of that speed which is posted within a school speed zone; to drive or
operate any motor vehicle in excess of speed during the designated hours
posted in the school zone; and also to drive or operate any motor vehicle in
excess of speed during the hours when the lights are flashing; and
WHEREAS, protection of the public health, safety, and welfare shall be
served by approval of this Resolution; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ,
TEXAS:
THAT, the City of Schertz City Council supports approval of a 20-mph
school zone at the intersection of Ashley Oak Drive, north on Schertz Parkway,
to 300 feet north of Savannah Drive.
