MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING
August 21st, 2006
The August monthly meeting of the Schertz Youth Commission was called to order by Emily
Furillo, President, at 6:32 pm.

Mrs. Ellis welcomes everyone to the meeting and informs the commission that Mrs. Pennington
would not be present.
Christopher motions to approve last months minutes, Sonja seconds, and the minutes are
approved.
A discussion is started on reading and editing a draft of By-Laws. Christopher reads the minutes
and discussion 'hegins on Section 2. It was agreed to change in the by-laws that all members have
voting rights.
The discussion moves to the expiration of new members. The expiration date was agreed on
May 31, 2007 with new members beginning on June 1, 2007.
Another discussion was started over the removal of commission members "with or without
cause." It was decided to leave this phrase in the by-laws.
The next discussion over the by-laws was over a archive record to be kept by the secretary. This
was clearly defined in the by-laws.
There was a brief discussion about publicity in schools. There are commission members
attending Samuel Clemens High School, Randolph High School and some att~ndhome school.
The next discU$Sionabout the by":'laws was over adding a new section, Article ilL. Section 5-
Attendance. It was agreed that members and/or officers were not allowed to miss more than four
meetings and events combined without an excuse. If1n\,~xcused absences exceed four, that
member and/or officer will be removed from the commission. .
A discussion was lead on the'..eq~rements for an officer position. It was agreed that for the
office of Histori'an, ltlembers.:.could be first year members and above. For the offices of
Secretary, Treasurer,Vice hesiaent and President, members must already have completed one
year of membership 011 fue commission.
Christopher moves to ad.Qpt the newly edited by-laws, then amends his motion to table to the
next meeting. Katie seconds the amended motion and vote is taken. All vote aye.
A brief discussloo was held over events. Some events that were considered f.(Kthe commission
to take partin were.~.day for Life, Meet the Buffs (Clemens High School), Light up the Night
(Clemens High~SchOOl)~ leadership conventions, Schertz's Party in the Park, The Festival of
Angels, and the Blue Santa program.
Mrs. Ellis asked all members and gaests to come to the next meeting with issues at hand to
discuss.
Sonja informed the commission that she would be absent from the next meeting. (September
18th).
Meeting was adjourned at 8:18 pm.
