~ Schertz Historical Preservation Committee
'~ Minutes for Meeting February 21, 2008
1. Meeting called to order by Mayor Hal Baldwin at 6:30 p.m.
II. Introduction of new members and visiting citizens
III. Mayor presented the Committee with a letter received from Cyrille Laenger,
member of the Riedisheim (France) Historical Preservation Association. The
letter asks for information and photographs of Schertz, Texas for publication
in their association's "Bulletin". Mayor Baldwin will gather information and
photos for forwarding to Cyrill Laengen.
IV. Discussion of Committee organizational future by Dean Weirtz
a Draft By-Laws handed out to members for review/comment and vote at
the next Committee meeting.
b. Committee membership roles needing updated. Dean Weirtz will contact
current members to assure enrollment listing is co~t.
V. Mayor Baldwin discussed the status of the Kramer House Project. Committee
members asked questions and commented on the benefits of having a heritage
information presence somewhere within the Kramer House once it is opened
as a visitors center.

VI. Discussion of pending project to develop a city historical plaque designating
the Randolph Reality Building in downtown as a historical landmark. The
building owners are agreeable with such a proposal. There remains a need to
develop the wording for such a plaque, arrange for construction/manufacture,
and establish a presentation date/ceremony. Major Baldwin and Pat Ramirez
agreed to serve as subcommittee members to develop recommendations for
criteria needed to award a city issued historical designation of homes,
buildings, etc. Such recommendations will be brought before the Committee
for vote and presentation to the City Council.
VII. Discussion of a proposed Heritage Research Project being undertaken by
Dean Weirtz. Mr. Weirtz supplied a copy of the initial project chapter outline
and invited anyone with interest to join him in the research and writing effort.
The project would eventually be submitted as a Committee research effort
once completed and published.
VIII. Discussion of the Committee's transcription of historical papers and the oral
history effort by Ray Mueller. Ray reported that the project has been a part of
the Committee business for some time. He has had difficulty getting needed
supplies and materials. Committee vote will be required at a future meeting to
validate all Committee projects.

IX. Mr. Weirtz presented a snmmary of the activities of the Comal County
-------- Genealogy Society Meeting held Tuesday, February 12, 2008.
X. Donation was made of a Committee scrapbook for use in capturing news
articles regarding city historical events and committee publicity. Lula Mae
Schertz was asked to retain custody of the scrapbook and to consider
accepting the post of Committee Historian. Lula Mae accepted the scrapbook.
XI. Committee business being complete the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
