RE: BUFFALO VALLEY LANDFILL PROJECT
Dear Mr. Mendieta:
It has beeri brought to my attention that a permit for
a landfill has been applied for bY Suntech Improvement
and Development Corp. The proposed landfill is to be
located in northeast Bexar County near the community
of Cibolo, Texas, and on the banks of th~ Cibolo Creek.
The proximity of the proposed landfill to Cibolo Creek
and its potential impact on water quality and the
aquatic ecosystem in Cibolo Creek is-of grave concern
to the San Antonio River Authority and the downstream
land owners that take advantage of the aquatic
resources in Cibolo Creek.
It would be appreciated that staffs of the San Antonio
River Authority be kept informed of the BUffalo Valley
lan~fill project permitting progress and be given the
opportunity to comment on the project at the
appropriate time. .
Thank you for your consideration and attention to this
request.
Sincerely,

The Honorable William E. Little
Mayor, City of Cibolo

Dear Mayor Little:
In answer to your letter regarding Buffalo Valley Landfill, I brought
this up with the Schertz City Council; and by a concensus of 3 to 2,
we have decided that we will not withdraw our resolution supporting
the landfill.
As regards Cibolo Creek, you are aware that any landfill must pass
rigid State requirements before any approval is given.
We, too, would far rather have a site farther from our city. However,
we have lived for at least 15 years with a landfill that is in Schertz.
We have had only complaints about the trucks leaving dirt on Jack Hays
Boulevard. Land values near the landfill have not been affected.
Both our cities have developments in progress very near to the landfill,
and the houses are not inexpensive.
Our Council will support an alternate location if you can find one.
I would also point out that the proposed site is also within the E.T.J.
of Schertz, and that it is located on Schaefer Loop.
