SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES

The LAB met on April 4, 2005 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the March meeting were presented. Lisa made the motion to
accept the minutes as corrected. Julie seconded. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: The February report was presented. Julie stated that the $5,000
deposited in the investment account will show on the March report. Mary made the
motion to accept the report. Pattie seconded. The motion carried.
Librarians' Report:
· The March circulation number was 21,085, which is a 7% increase.
· The total number of patrons in March was 15,289, with 387 attending story time.
The computer usage total was 2,054, and there were 215 on-line renewals.
· Plans for the summer reading program are going well. Nicki has acquired several
donations from local companies and attractions. A Scholastic Book Fair is
scheduled for the first week in June.
· The Tweens program continues, even though attendance has been lower.
· Melissa, Gail, and Margaret attended the AALS meeting in March.
· The annual report has been completed and submitted.
· Policies are still being worked on and will take some time to complete.
· The Eagle Sc~uts project will start the week of April 11.
· Gail reported that light poles will be installed soon. The gazebo will get started
after the lights are finished.
· Bids for the park will begin on April 26. The city would like to break ground by
May 16.
Committee Reports:
· The Interlibrary Loan Policy was reviewed. Mary made the motion to adopt the
policy. Julie seconded. The motion carried.
· The Library Patron Conduct Policy was revised and updated. Julie made the
motion to adopt the policy as updated. Lisa seconded. The motion carried.
· Lisa made the motion to accept The Dress and Appearance Policy and The
Personnel Policy as presented. Pattie seconded the motion. The motion carried.
· Melissa will contact a lawyer to review the USA Patriot Act to see if the library is
in compliance.
· Melissa will have another policy to review next month.
· The LAB was asked to bring new library suggestions next month.

The next LAB meeting will be on Monday, May 2,2005, at 7:00 p.m.
