SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on June 6, 2005 with the following members present:

Visitors: Jerry Mendenhall and Tom Ellis
Minutes: Minutes for the May meeting were presented. Margaret made the motion to
accept the minutes. Simone seconded. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: The April report was presented. Pattie made the motion to accept
the report. Margaret seconded. The motion carried.
Librarians' Report:
The May circulation number was 19,959.
The total number of patrons in May was 13,939 with 447 attending story time.
The computer usage total was 1,987.
The Summer Reading Program began on June 1 with a busy start. It is expected
to fill up quickly.
Clifford the Big Red Dog will be at the library on Wednesday, June 8.
The Scholastic Book Fair was successful with $1,950 collected in 3 days. The
library gets $100 of teen paperbacks.
The Tweens program ( for 9- 1 4 year olds) is starting to have more in attendance.
The T.v. program, Cat Paws, will film a segment at the playscape on July 6.
Summer movies are: June 18- The Incredibles; July 16- Racing Stripes; August
20- Sponge Bob.
Melissa completed workshops in May. Nicki and Regina attended a software
class.
A $150 donation from Hermann and Sons will probably be used to purchase
books.
Gail and Melissa went ona field trip to Cedar Park with architects Jerry
Mendenhall and Tom Ellis to get ideas for Schertz's new library.
The Schertz City Council agreed to pay the full amount of $5,000 for the
architect's rendering of the new library.
The architects discussed the LAB's vision of the new library and its needs. They
will include designs to adhere to state guidelines. The final rendering and
program will include a room by room budget and will be more detailed. The
drawing will be for a 50,000-99,000 service area. The building will be
approximately 30,000 sq. ft. About 8 acres of land will be needed.
Parking, landscaping, the color of the building, etc. will have to be approved by
the planning and Zoning Committee and City Council.
A bond could possibly take place in November for the new library.

Committee Reports: None
Old Business: Melissa put a notice in the city newsletter for volunteers to help with
shelving. Training will take place for those interested.
New Business: The LAB will have an informal meeting on June 23 at 2:00 p.m. to
discuss library needs and to make final plans for the July 4th float.
Simone made the motion to adjourn. Julie seconded. The motion carried.
No meeting will take place in July.
The next LAB meeting will be on Monday, August 1,2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Community Center.
