SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on September 12,2005 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the August meeting were presented. Margaret made the motion to
accept the minutes as corrected. Pattie seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: An amended June report was presented which included a
correction on the book store sales tax. The July report was also presented. Mary made
the motion to accept the amended June report as well as the July report. Pattie seconded
the motion. The motion carried.
Librarians' Reports:
· August proved to be a busy month with the following statistics: The circulation
number was 24,084. Computer usage was 2,463. 16,251 patrons visited the
library. 138 children attended Story Time.
· Approximately 100 people attended the last summer movie on August 20. Many
positive comments have been received about the summer movies and the public
wants the program to continue. The LAB may want to purchase a site license and
a more permanent screen in order to provide more movies in the future.
. Story Time resumed on August 24.
· Nicki is working on several projects for children, tweens, and teens. She is
working with Chris Coronado on a computer project for on-line information. An
afternoon program for elementary aged children and the tweens program begin
the week of Sept. 12.
· Other programs for children will include a presentation by Terry Aikman for Fire
Prevention Week and a pizza eating contest. A winter reading program will be
started in January with a CSI theme.
· Local muralist, Robert Wilkens, has donated $200 to add to the library's audio
book collection and plans to donate $200 more. He has also offered to do
decorative painting in the library.
· Melissa attended a long range planning meeting in August. She is working on a
plan by 2006, which is required by system management. She will attend a system
membership meeting on Sept. 17.
· Gail has met with the architects and is waiting until the new budget is approved
before putting the library on the city council's agenda. The architects will then
give their presentation to the council.
· Two part-time positions will begin on Oct.1, a 20 hr. a week technical services
person and a 20 hr. a week person to shelve books.
· The new council chambers may be open by Oct. 15. The civic center is on
schedule.
· Gail plans to attend the National Parks and Recreational Conference which will be
held in San Antonio this year.

New Business: Melissa presented sample vision statements and has asked for the LAB's
input. She plans to have a new statement by March 2006.
Julie made the motion to adjourn. Mary seconded. The motion carried.
The next LAB meeting will be on Monday, October 3,2005 at 7:00 p.m.
