LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
The LAB met in regular session on Monday, May 6. 1991 at 7:30 P.M.
Members present:

The minutes were presented. Julie moved they be accepted. Richard
seconded. Motion carried. One correction: Retro Conversion Project has not been
dropped; the soft ware has been changed to Precision I.
The treasurer's report was presented. Richard moved to accept and David
seconded. Motion carried.

Gail reported -
_ she attended a productive TLA Convention.
_ one of the TLA sessions was on the Meyers-Briggs Personality Test which
analyzes work relationships and personalities and might be a possible session
for our staff.
_ she discussed the meeting room usage with Mr. Sweatt and hewould like a
board recommendation. Gail checked with Mr. Ron Wiederstein, who is $870.00
behind in his meeting room use fees. He offered to payoff a little each
month until paid up by Oct. 1st. Gail vi11 go back to Mr. Sweatt with this info.

_ that the new clerk. Sandra Bryant. is an enthusiastic. energetic addition to
the staff.
committee Reports -
_ No report from Finance or Policy.
_ Building: Gail reported that Mr. Jack Tokar got the Lions' Club to donate 10
five gall'on shrubs from Schultz's Nursery. She had a restitution man plant
them around the AI C unit to shade that area. She & Margaret bought $69 worth of
additional shrubs to replace those killed by frost. She reauested Building

Committee to check into \/Tought iron benches to replace the two wood ones
that she is having refinished by a restitution man so they may be placed in-
side the library. Gail reported she is having Gerard Electric submit an esti-
mate on the cost of changing the library lighting for more efficient use of
power. D & R Electric \li1l be contacted for same. A $1200.00 bid was re-
ceived from American Lighting. After the recent rains a leak developed in
the genealogy room and around the back door of the book store. Mike will in-
clude roof treatment of that portion in his next budget.
Old Business -
Margaret sent thank yous to both papers for the book sale support but didn't
see it in either.
Gail mentioned this year's float theme: "Stand UP For Freedom". Consensus of
the board is there will be no float from the board but Gail and staff may do
se, if they want.
New Business -
_ Gail reported her budget is due to Mr. Sweatt by June lOth and she would have
copies for us at the June meeting. Barbara recommended we come to a council
workshop in June to lobby on behaJ.f of the library.
Gail asked for support from the board for a salary increase request to $25,000
after she receives her Master's degree and becomes a certified professional
librarian.
_ The Schertz Business Club is sponsoring the "Miss Schertz Sweetheart" Pagaent.
Connie recommended the Board not sponsor a candidate. Board agreed.
- Ruth brought up the book store policy about weeding. Mary recommended the Board
weed regularly before or after a regular meeting. Mary, Connie. & Richard,
(Book store Committee) will meet before June 20th and bring recommendations
to the July meeting.
_ Richard reported he'd successfully distributed the Reader's Digest Condensed
Books to various churches and clinics on the south and west sides of San Antonio.
_ Mary brought up the possibility of purchasing tables or shelves for the book
store. Book Store Committee will check into this.
_ Richard asked about better parking lot markings for traffic patterns and park-
ing stripes. Gail will check with the city.
_ Margaret advised we bring library budget items to the next board meeting.
