The upcoming dance/auction was discussed at the beginning of the meeting in order
to accommodate Mrs. Mueller's schedule. She reported that she would go in on
Friday night or Saturday morning to set up the auction items with their value,
number, and source. She will take 100 flyers to Tutto's to insert in pizza- '
to-go boxes. She will also check to see if Mike's Sub will donate the sandwiches.
Mary reported that Don Lanier will be our auctioneer and will take posters and
tickets with him to RAFB. She confirmed that the Midnight Bandits will come by
7:00 p.m. to set up as our band. The outhouse and bank structures were destroyed
when city items were moved, so Ruth's decorating committee may want to replace
one or both. Ruth sent word that she has bridles and saddles lined up; Dr. Har-
borth will again provide hay for decor and auction.
Earl needs $30.00 for the liquor license to sell beer. Aggie checked with Mr.
Gilmore about the liquor sales and police supervision. Aggie's bar will be picked
up at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
Julie has a roll of tickets for food and drink sales. Gail and Doris Courtney
again bought food and supplies. Doris will make chili for Frito pies. Margaret
will get Fritos when she gets soft drinks.
A belt buckle was suggested as a gift of appreciation for Don Lanier's free
services as auctioneer. We will decide on the auction date, February 13.
The minutes were presented. A correction was made~~Lois Moore was to be honored
as a retired library volunteer on January 5, 1988, not February 5, as recorded.
Margaret moved that the minutes be approved as corrected. Julie seconded.

Reported by Gail:
The Collection stands at: Adult, 9516; YA, 1150; Juvenile,3502; Filmstrips,133.
144 books were pulled from the YA section because of old copyright dates and
a ten-year status of never been checked out. YA fiction and juvenile fiction
have been inventoried.
The flagpole cost $37.00 in materials. The city crews did a great job with its
repair as we~l as with trimming trees and fixing the ramp.
The easy shelves have been ordered at $48.00 each. The twelve will total $600.00.
A television was bought for $330.00. A micorfilm reader was $600.00.
Gail checked with EMS about the availability of the community center on Thursday,
April 7, for the book sale set-up. There is no EMS class then, so we will
proceed. The book sale dates are: Friday, April 8, 11-8; Saturday, April 9, 10-5;
Sunday, April 10, noon - 3.,
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Connie reported that radio, TV, and print media had been alerted about the
dance/auction. There was also some coverage of the groundbreaking. Posters were
distributed to various merchants, and posters were available for LAB members to
take after the meeting. Flyers were also available.
BUILDING
Earl reported on the progress of the addition. The outside door will be moved
to the center of the outside wall. A request will be made that a solid core door
be cut in between the existing wall and the addition. Cost will be $365.00.
The fire inspector told Gail that there must be a suspended ceiling in the
air conditioning closet.
POLICY
Margaret displayed the LAB Member pin that has been sent as a gift to retiring
members. That pin, a certificate of appreciation from Mrs. Krause, and a letter
of appreciation signed by our chairman will be sent to Fred Ross.
Discussion of the Library's closing schedule for holidays followed. It was
recommended that we change our policy found on page 3, section "D. Holidays".
Connie moved that it now read, "The holiday schedule for the Schertz Public
Library shall comply with the City of Schertz policies regarding holidays."
Tony seconded. Motion passed.
Gene Weaver was present, and discussion of his resigned membership took place.
He had received a letter from our chairman that informed him of the resignation,
according to Article I, Section 1 of the by-laws. Gene asserted that he had taken
a LAB position only under conditions that it be understood about hIs erratic work
schedule. It was then mentioned that 'his attendance at meetings had dwindled to
two times during 1987. Gene stated that he could not guarantee a change in his
job conditions. His resignation from the Schertz Public Library Advisory Board,
enforced by the by-laws, remained unchanged. Gene departed.
A brief discussion followed about the need to fill the vacant LAB position.
It was decided that the same items of appreciation be 'sent to Gene Weaver as those
for Fred Ross.
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS '
The husband of a volunteer named Eleanor passed away. A plaque in his memory
will be added to the inside cover of a book on behalf of the LAB.

was introduced individually. '
