Reported by Gail:
The Collection stands at: Adult, 9617; YA, 1145; Juvenile, 3573; Filmstrips, 133.
We have apparently lost three volunteers, so there is a need there.
Gail and Earl took care of the majority of the thank-yours to contributors for
the dance/auction. A list was circulated among LAB members in order to add any
persons possibly missed.
A volunteer provided a few pictures of the groundbreaking for the scrapbook.
The district coordinator says that SPL has the highest turnover rate of the 35
libraries in our district. Books are being used! Gold star to our staff!
The genealogy group wants to use the Courtney Room for their meetings. Because
of our policy on meeting room fees, their wants and needs, etc., it was decided
. that the geneology group should be invited to our April meeting so that all
can be discussed.
Because of our policy ~equlations a gentleman from the Seven Day Adventists
was denied use of the meeting room for a seminar.
Discussion followed about our policy on meeting room fees. This matter is at
the librarian's discretion and interpretation as to whom should be charged.

LAB members received copies of the most recent Texas Library Trustees Manual.
Commissioner Brannon has some concern about Schertz representation on the
Guadalupe County Library advisory board. Our library is charged with serving
the unincorporated portion of the county. We do allow services to everyone
in the county. It was again suggested that we ask the city councils of
Cibolo and Marion for support money for this service.
FINANCE
Earl encouraged the finance committee to prepare a budget soon.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Connie reported that a general letter-to-the-editor thank-you had been in both
local papers for the dance/auction. Book sale posters have been ordered. Book
sale flyers were made available for LAB members to take. Connie called several
San Antonio portable sign dealers for book sale publicity. Because of recent
San Antonio regulatio.ns, none were interested in donating signs for our use. The
least expensive sign rental .was $60.00 for the month prior to the sale. No
action was taken. Local, sign companies do not handle portable signs. Mary will
check with Bill Little to see if we might borrow his sign. We will also contact
Cibolo Bank, Sonic, DQ, and Pizza Hut for public1ty on their signs. Julie said
that the city employee paycheck had a place for announcements that we might try.
BUILDING
Earl reported that the addition construction is proceeding satisfactorily. We
will probably get a $300.00 rebate from Ed Kuempel's steel company.
OLD BUSINESS
Mary will contact the NHS'or the Key Club at Clemens to help haul books to the
community center on Wednesday afternoon before the book sale.
Margaret had the certificates of appreciation for Fred and Gene. Letters signed
by Earl on behalf of the LAB were read and approved for inclusion with certificates.'
There was discussion about how to get more people out for the dance/auction. Our
profits were better this year, but more attendance is desirable. Mary reported
that an additional $117.00 would be forthcoming from funds collected by Liz Mueller.
On Saturday, June 11, 1988, there will be an open house in honor of the Library's
ten-year anniversary. Birthday cake will be served during the normal Saturday
operating hours. Perhaps during the week prior balloons and anniversary bookmarks
can be distributed to patrons. Having a large plywood birthday card for patrons
to sign was suggested. We will discuss the matter further at the next meeting.
Other suggestions included having printed napkins and a proclamation from the mayor.
We still want to use Mary's suggestion of a beach scene and books for the July 4th
parade entry. We need a flatbed truck.. Earl may know someone who can provide one.
NEW BUSINESS
On Sunday, April 17, 1988, the Rotary Round-Up will take place. Earl was contacted
and requested the nacho sales for us. This event will be held at the Bluebonnet,
most likely inside. Mary moved that we pursue the Rotary Round-Up possibilities.
Ruth seconded. Motion passed.
The LAB decided to send Gail to the national A.L.A. convention in New Orleans in July.
Connie moved to adjourn.
Margaret seconded.
