SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on October 5, 1998 with the following members present:

Ruth made the motion to select Margaret Riley as vice-chairperson of the
LAB, Pattie seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The minutes for the previous meeting were presented. Ruth made the motion to
accept the minutes. Mary seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: The reports for July and August were presented. No report
was available for September. The Balance as of August 31,1998, was
$1,479.71. Ruth made the motion to accept the report, with a second by Barbara
Quates. The motion carried.

Policy in order to receive money from them. Gail has made changes to our
policy to fit the criteria. The changes were given to Mary to be reviewed by the
Policy Committee. The policy will then be presented to the LAB for approval at
the next meeting.
-Michael Baldwin conducted a Library Performance Evaluation recently. This
evaluation compared the Schertz Public Library to other libraries in Texas of the
same size. In his report, Mr. Baldwin recommended that the Schertz Public
Library be better funded. He also stated that the library has excellent
management, but is understaffed.
-Gail reported that the pay for library clerks has been increased to that of city
clerks. Also, an increase of $35,000 for books has been included in the budget.
-The money raised by H.E.B. to fund books goes to the San Antonio libraries.
Gail plans to speak to Mr. Sweatt to find out if the money raised at the Schertz
H.E.B. can go to the Schertz Library.
-Gail plans to invite the architect to the next LAB meeting to go over any
suggestions for the library renovations.
-Residents of Guadalupe County are eligible to get a card in New Braunfels,
-Tony Vander Heyden is working on Internet problems.
Old Business: The LAB needs to fill the position left by John Grosskopf.
Suggestions will be made at the next meeting.
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth with a second by Julie. The motion
carried.
The next LAB meeting will be on Monday, NOvember 02, 1998
