SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on August 4, 1997 with the following members present:
John Grosskopf Mary McAllister Margaret Riley Barbara Ricks
Julie Parr Ruth Tienor Gail Douglas
The minutes for the June meeting were presented ( No meeting was held in July). The
motion to accept the minutes was made by Margaret Riley and seconded by Julie. The
motion carried.
No printed treasurer's report was available because Julie's and the city's numbers did
not correspond. Julie reported that the cause is mainly due to the CD amount which was
listed in the wrong place by the city, and threw off the totals. Hopefully, the corrections
will be made for the September meeting.
Julie ieported that in June the following deposits weie made:
$173. 15--Bookstore $60.00--Memorial Donations
$500.00--Donation by Gerald Nisle to buy add on section of easy reading.
July deposits were as follows:
$265.40--Bookstore (end of June and first of July)
Librarian's Report:
Gail reported that the total budget is $170,919.00. The library is eligible for a $50,000
grant and there is a good chance we will get it. The money will be for computers and -
access to the Internet. Gail asked Mr. Sweatt for $500.00 to pay a computer consultant if
the grant is awarded. Mr. Sweatt agreed.
Gail has also requested that the clerks be raised to a 7 in order to receive a pay raise. She
has also requested a half-time Children's Program Director, but may only get 1/4 time.
The Library Float was awarded a trophy for the Fourth of July Parade. Congratulations to
Gail, her family, and the "loyal" LAB members who also helped.
Gina has returned from maternity leave, and will work until Oct. 1, or until her house is
built in Pleasonton.
Gail reported that Clara has resigned from the bookstore. Sue VanderHeyden is now
volunteering. Gail would like to acknowledge Louise Nordmeyer for serving as a
volunteer for so many years. A letter from the mayor seem appropriate.
Sometime, Gail would like some guidelines made to clarify when the board would send
flowers for funerals, etc.

The LAB will need to discuss what the Library may need if the $180,000 bond does not
pass.
No Committee Reports
No Old Business
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth, and seconded by Mary. The motion carried.
The next LAB meting will be on Sept. 8. 1997 at 7:00 P.M.
